Overview

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Certified Veterinary Technician to join our team at Hawthorne Animal Hospital. The ideal candidate will have a passion for animal care and welfare, along with the technical skills necessary to assist veterinarians in providing high-quality medical care. The Certified Veterinary Technician will play a vital role in our veterinary practice, supporting our mission to ensure the health and well-being of our patients.

Responsibilities
  • Assist veterinarians during examinations, surgeries, and medical procedures, ensuring the safety and comfort of animals.
  • Perform clinical assessments and gather information from pet owners regarding health history, symptoms, and behavior to aid in diagnosis.
  • Administer medications, vaccinations, and treatments as prescribed by the veterinarian.
  • Utilize technical skills to conduct laboratory tests, including blood analysis, urinalysis, and cytology.
  • Monitor and record vital signs of animals before, during, and after procedures.
  • Manage anesthesia and provide post-operative care for patients recovering from surgery.
  • Prepare and maintain surgical instruments, equipment, and supplies, ensuring a sterile environment.
  • Educate pet owners on animal health, nutrition, behavior, and post-care instructions.
  • Maintain accurate medical records and ensure compliance with regulations and standards.
  • Assist with radiology, dental care, and other diagnostic procedures as needed.
  • Participate in client communication and maintain a positive practice image through exemplary customer service.
Qualifications
  • Associate's degree in Veterinary Technology from an accredited program.
  • Certification/Licensure as a Veterinary Technician (CVT, LVT, RVT) in Illinois.
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in a veterinary practice is preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of animal anatomy, physiology, and behavior.
  • Proficient in performing technical skills and operating veterinary equipment.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interact effectively with clients and team members.
  • Compassionate and dedicated to the care of animals with a strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks efficiently.
