About the Role

BJC Home Care is looking for you! The home health registered nurse provides 1:1 patient care supporting an under‑served community while attaining work‑life balance and setting up your own schedule.

Schedule & Location
  • 8:00 – 4:30 pm.
  • Weekend rotation: generally every 4th.
  • On‑call nights: 4 to 6 per month.
  • Holiday requirements: 2 per year.
  • St. Louis City area surrounding Barnes Jewish Hospital.
  • Cell phone and laptop provided.
  • Mileage reimbursement at IRS rate $0.70/mile.
  • Up to $15,000 bonus for eligible candidates.
Overview

BJC Home Care offers patients and their families a complete range of home care services, including skilled nursing services, adult and pediatric hospice, supportive care, rehabilitation therapy, home infusion therapy, home medical equipment, and high‑tech respiratory care. Specialty home care programs are also available, including asthma, cardiac, diabetes, orthopedic, and wound care programs. The Metro St. Louis Intermittent Home Care Department provides home visits to patients in the metropolitan area and several nearby counties, with 24‑hour on‑call nursing supervision.

Role

Purpose

Evaluate the client and provide services requiring substantial and specialized skill, appropriate preventive and rehabilitative nursing procedures, and instructions to assist the client in learning self‑care techniques. When assigned as case manager, the staff nurse coordinates all aspects of care related to that patient.

Responsibilities
  • Assess patient preferences and barriers to involvement in care, considering values, emotional, spiritual, cultural, and population‑specific needs.
  • Develop, implement, and document individual care plans with defined goals in collaboration with the interprofessional team, patient, family, or caregiver.
  • Promote respect, equity, and empathy in interactions with diverse and vulnerable populations; practice collaborative problem‑solving, service recovery, and patient‑family centered continuity of care.
  • Evaluate changes in patient condition, inform and collaborate with family or caregivers, and communicate with the interprofessional team; update care plans in the EMR.
  • Ensure evidence‑based practice and quality patient outcomes while maintaining constant alertness and safety in this safety‑sensitive position.
Minimum Requirements
  • Education:

    Nursing Diploma or Associate’s in Nursing.
  • Experience:

    Less than 2 years.
  • License: RN.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • No supervisor experience required.
Preferred Requirements
  • Education:

    Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing or Home Health.
  • Experience:

    2–5 years.
