Full-Time County Contractual Position open to all qualified candidates. Location: 122 North Langley Road, Suite A & B, Glen Burnie, MD 21060 Hours: 11:00 a.m.

- 7:30 p.m. Benefits: Participation in the County’s group health plan including prescription, dental, and optical, paid holidays and sick leave. Optional deferred compensation program at employee's own expense.



Job Description

Nature of Work:

Functions as a non-clinical, peer-based position that engages, educates and supports individuals to make life changes necessary to recover from disabling mental illness and/or substance use disorder conditions. Activities are educational and coaching in nature. A key element that enhances and distinguishes this position is that the candidate appropriately highlights their personal experience of recovery. Assists individuals at select community sites.

Provides post-overdose interventions to overdose survivors in the community as a member of a two-person team with the primary goal of keeping people safe, however, that is defined by the individual. Requires travel to locations throughout Anne Arundel County.



Minimum Qualifications

Education: High School Diploma or Equivalency (GED)

Experience

Preference will be given to applicants with an associate of arts degree from an accredited college or university, especially in the human services field.

License Or Certification

If not certified, must complete peer specialist training, peer counselor or comparable training program from a recognized and approved source within 18 months of starting the position.

Notes

Must have a minimum of two years of recovery from a substance use or co-occurring disorder. One year is acceptable with a letter from a treatment professional. No current criminal justice system involvement. Behavioral Health Services will consider the length of time since the last conviction and the type of crime. Must have a vehicle available for travel. Must have a current Maryland driver’s license with a clear driving record.

Able to multitask in a fast-paced environment. Excellent time management, organizational, written and oral communication skills. Able to work independently and on a team. Have an understanding of Anne Arundel County resources. Be proficient with Microsoft Office, Excel and electronic medical records.
