JOB DESCRIPTIONThis position primarily supports and advances the improvement of air quality by ensuring the collection and reporting of timely, accurate, representative and complete ambient air quality data.
Please note:
This is a restricted position. Continued employment is contingent on the availability of grant or non-general funds. Please note this position follows a hybrid work schedule to include both in-office and telework. Candidates must be able to work from the assigned work location in Virginia.
Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to, maintenance and support of Virginia criteria pollutants analyzers and samplers air monitoring network. It is accomplished through proper analyzers and ancillary equipment installation, calibrations, repair and maintenance, QA/QC procedures completion. This requires maintenance of documentation throughout to meet or exceed established VA DEQ and/or EPA mandates and guidelines. The position will lead or assist in QAPPs and SOPs development, regional staff training and support.
QUALIFICATIONS- Working knowledge of environmental and engineering practices and principles in ambient air quality assessment.
- Demonstrated mechanical, electrical and electronic aptitude, technical troubleshooting and repair skills
- Proficiency with personal computers and microprocessors, computer software and programming
- Ability to conduct technical studies and prepare report of results
- Ability to climb ladders, work at heights, lift and carry at least fifty (50) pounds, availability for day and overnight travel
- Demonstrated ability to work independently, with agency staff, industrial representatives, and the general public
- This position may require you to operate a state owned or leased vehicle. Therefore, a valid driver's license is required
- Combination of education or training in environmental science, physics, computer science or basic science is desirable
- Technical writing experience is highly desired

Through the dedication and work of over 800 employees across six regional offices and the Central Office in Richmond, DEQ issues permits, conducts monitoring and inspections, and enforces the law.
