Overview

Projects Inc. is seeking an experienced CNS 3,4 & 5 Axis Manufacturing Engineer/Programmer to join our team. We are a manufacturer of complex small machined components for the Aerospace and Power Systems industries with over fifty years in business. The qualified candidate reports to the Director of Operations and is responsible for developing programs that direct CNC machines to cut and shape a variety of metals to produce components for the Aerospace and Power Generation industry.

In addition to programming responsibilities, the position may have responsibility for other machines as required.

Responsibilities
  • Experience in using Solid Works and Mastercam or Gibbs Cam is desired
  • Read engineering prints, including knowledge and application of GD&T
  • Develop work-holding fixtures
  • Select speeds, feeds, and tooling grades for exotic metals as well as steel and aluminum
  • Read G-code
  • Integrate work with Engineering, Production, Quality, Purchasing and Scheduling to ensure a smooth flow of quality products through the product life cycle
  • Use CAD models and/or blueprints to define the component configuration and use CAM software to generate program code that guides CNC machines
  • Generate CAM program code (Mastercam or Gibbs Cam) to control CNC operations across rough cutting, finish cutting, shaping, pocketing, profiling, drilling, tapping, threading, etc.
  • Analyze instructions, drawings, blueprints, specifications, and design data to calculate dimensions, tool selection, machine speeds and feed rates
  • Revise programs to eliminate errors and re-test to ensure resolution
  • Observe CNC machines on trial runs or run computer simulations to ensure proper function and conformance to specifications
  • Determine reference points, machine cutting paths, and compute angular/linear dimensions, radii, and curvatures
  • Compare computer printouts with original part specifications and blueprints to verify accuracy of instructions
  • Possess a minimum of 3 years of prior work experience in Quality Control Inspection or shop-related work; preferably in Aerospace Manufacturing
Requirements
  • 5+ years of related experience programming 3-, 4-, and 5-axis machines
  • Computer proficiency with Mastercam software
  • Knowledge of probing and machine tools
  • Tool/fixture and work holding design experience
  • Ability to use drafting and/or modeling software (Solid Works)
  • Understanding of lean concepts
  • Strong time management skills with the ability to coordinate multiple projects; ability to read engineering prints and understand GD&T
