We are looking for a Senior Project Engineer to support our hybrid role in the Providence, RI office, with consideration for candidates in the Greater Boston or Connecticut area. This position will be responsible for the technical supervision of complex transportation projects and ensure that work performed conforms to the contractual scope of work, budget, and schedule.
Primary Responsibilities- Serve as the Technical Lead for the transportation components of complex projects
- Coordinate technical work among design disciplines and subconsultants
- Lead the development of 3D roadway design models using AutoCAD Civil3D in accordance with RIDOT standards and workflows
- Prepare plan sets, special provisions, and cost estimates for roadway design projects
- Assist Project Managers with planning, coordination, and execution of large and small projects
- Ensure compliance with project schedules and budgets, reporting progress and identifying work outside the contractual scope
- Develop technical approaches, schedules, and fee estimates for proposals on large‑scale or complex projects
- Create technical solutions for complex roadway projects to produce high‑quality work
- Maintain positive relationships with clients
- Develop technical approaches for proposals
- Supervise and train less experienced staff, providing daily guidance and serving as a mentor
- Manage a direct report, including workload management, approving timesheets and expense reports, and guiding career development
- Maintain quality control by reviewing designs, calculations, and assumptions on projects
- Prepare and perform oral presentations to the public, municipal boards, clients, and external associations at professional conferences
- Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering
- 5+ years of roadway design experience
- Professional Engineering License, or working towards licensure within one year in a state where Apex operates, or ability to obtain through reciprocity
- Strong writing skills for technical memoranda, reports, proposals, contracts, and subcontract scopes of work
- Knowledge of RIDOT plan set requirements and the RIDOT design process (plus)
- Valid US driver’s license and clean driving record

Sr Project Engineer
Annual Expected Pay Range$100,000 USD – $130,000 USD
