Overview
The Career Counselor Assists Students And Alumni In Exploring, Planning, And Achieving Their Academic And Career Goals.
This Includes Helping Them To
- Develop self-awareness by identifying, assessing, and understanding their competencies, values, and personal characteristics related to career choice and work performance.
- Access and utilize educational and occupational information to support informed career and academic decisions.
- Prepare professional materials such as resumes, cover letters, and CVs.
- Build job search skills and effectively present themselves as candidates by understanding their strengths and aligning them with job requirements.
- Gain hands‑on experience through student organizations, community service, on‑campus employment, internships, and other experiential learning opportunities.
- Leverage career development technology (including Profs Jobs, Big Interview, Focus 2, Going Global, and similar tools) to enhance readiness.
- Explore graduate and professional school opportunities by researching programs that align with their career goals.
Through individual sessions, group advising, and presentations (both in-person and virtual), the Career Counselor will deliver comprehensive career services to students and alumni.
Key Responsibilities- Contribute to the refinement of office materials, including sample resumes, cover letters, CVs, and other career development resources.
- Facilitate workshops and presentations for classes, student organizations, and university events on topics such as career exploration, resume development, interviewing, and internship/job search strategies. Evening and weekend sessions may be required.
- Refer students to appropriate on‑campus resources and support services as needed.
- Utilize RSN and university systems to manage appointments, maintain detailed notes, and track career services data in alignment with departmental protocols.
- Represent the ACE Center at university‑wide events such as career fairs, open houses, orientations, Accepted Students Day, and other campus initiatives.
- Support career initiatives and assist with additional responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor.
- Bachelor’s degree required;
Master’s degree in Counseling, Higher Education, or a related field preferred. - Minimum of two years of professional experience providing career advising or counseling within a higher education setting.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively counsel and advise college students on career planning and decision‑making.
- Proficiency in administering and interpreting career assessment tools and using computerized career guidance systems.
- Strong counseling, communication, presentation, customer service, and organizational skills.
- Experience working with career management systems and technology platforms.
- Active involvement in professional associations such as NACE, EACE, SHRM, NCDA, or similar organizations.
- Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as needed for career programming, workshops, and university events.
In compliance with The State of New Jersey's Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is AFT:
Range 21 ($63,833.24 min to $73,416.00 Step
4) with placement within the range determined by candidate's qualifications, professional experience, internal equity, and other factors.
For internal applicants, salary is determined per the Pay Adjustment formula (NJAC 4A:3-4.9 & 4.10).
For eligible employees, benefits include: comprehensive NJ State health, dental and retirement benefits, extensive accrued time off/paid holidays, and tuition reimbursement for employee, spouse, and dependents to attend Rowan University, Glassboro. (Tuition reimbursement will apply to undergraduate degrees only for spouse and dependents).
