Position: Electrician / Wireman

OCU Group is looking for an experienced Electrician / Wireman to Join the team based in Glasgow, to work on our projects in Scotland.

As an Electrician/Wireman, you will be responsible for the installation, wiring, maintenance, modification, and testing of electrical systems and equipment across a range of energy sector environments. Typical work may include substations, Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), renewable generation sites, grid connections, utility infrastructure, and industrial energy facilities. You will work on LV AC/DC systems, control and protection circuits, switch gear, instrumentation, and auxiliary systems that support the safe and reliable operation of critical power infrastructure.

Duties

and Responsibilities
  • Install, dress, terminate, and segregate cables for AC and DC systems including control, protection, instrumentation, power, and communication circuits.
  • Wire control panels, protection panels, switch gear, inverters, auxiliary supply boards, and associated equipment to client and industry standards.
  • Label, route, and secure wiring in accordance with electrical drawings, standards, and best practice.
Energy Infrastructure Equipment Work
  • Support installation and integration of energy infrastructure such as transformers, switch gear, inverters, converters, protection and SCADA systems, UPS, PCS units, battery racks, metering devices, and auxiliary electrical systems.
  • Assist in mechanical mounting, gland installation, cable containment, and termination activities.
Testing & Commissioning Support
  • Perform continuity, insulation resistance, polarity, loop, and functional testing on LV and DC systems.
  • Assist commissioning engineers during energization, control checks, interlock tests, protection checks, and system sign-off.
  • Interpret test readings and report deviations or faults promptly.
Fault Finding & Repairs
  • Identify electrical faults using schematics, test equipment, and structured troubleshooting methods.
  • Carry out repairs and remedial work to restore system performance across control, auxiliary, and communication circuits.
Health & Safety Compliance
  • Adhere to all relevant electrical safety procedures, permits, lock-out/tag-out, and safe isolation requirements.
  • Participate in risk assessments, toolbox talks, safety meetings, and training sessions.
  • Ensure correct use of PPE and compliance with industry legislation, standards, and local site rules.
Documentation & Reporting
  • Maintain accurate installation records, cable schedules, red-line mark-ups, test results, inspection documents, and as-built information.
  • Report hazards, incidents, or near misses promptly and support investigations where required.
Skills and Experience
  • Vocational qualification in electrical installation, engineering, or equivalent (e.g., NVQ Level 3, City & Guilds, 18th Edition, ECS Card).
  • Experience working within the energy, utilities, industrial, or power sector preferred.
  • Competence in panel wiring, cable termination, and LV/DC system installation.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, cable schedules, wiring diagrams, and schematics.
  • Working knowledge of electrical standards and regulations (e.g., BS 7671, IEC standards, DNO/TO requirements).
  • Competence in the use of electrical test equipment (multimeters, insulation resistance testers, etc.).
  • Full UK driving licence desirable; willingness to travel and work on various sites.
