Associate Ecologist (with EnvCoW Experience)
Location: Scotland (Glasgow / Edinburgh)

We are seeking an experienced Associate Ecologist with a strong background in Ecological Clerk of Works (ECoW) and exposure to Environmental Clerk of Works (EnvCoW) responsibilities to join a growing employee owned environmental business in Scotland. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who wants to contribute to high‑quality ecological delivery while working in a supportive, values‑driven environment.
About the RoleAs an Associate Ecologist, you will play a key role in delivering and overseeing ecological inputs across a diverse portfolio of projects. You will work closely with multidisciplinary teams, provide technical leadership, and ensure high standards of ecological assessment, mitigation and compliance.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys a balance of technical work, field involvement and project leadership, without the pressure of heavy corporate structures or rigid hierarchies.
Key Responsibilities- Lead and contribute to ecological assessments, surveys and reporting.
- Provide ECoW/EnvCoW support on construction and infrastructure projects.
- Offer technical guidance on protected species, habitats and mitigation design.
- Support project management, including resourcing, quality assurance and client communication.
- Mentor and support junior team members where appropriate.
- Work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to deliver proportionate, evidence‑based ecological solutions.
We are looking for someone who brings:
- Strong experience as an Ecologist in Scotland, ready to step into an Associate role.
- Demonstrable ECoW experience, with some exposure to EnvCoW responsibilities.
- A balanced approach to fieldwork and desk‑based tasks - ideally someone who enjoys maintaining a mix.
- A preference for working within a supportive, people‑focused organisation rather than a large corporate structure.
- Confidence in delivering high‑quality ecological outputs and advising clients.
- The ability to work independently and remotely, with occasional office attendance as required.
- Full membership of CIEEM (or working towards it) is advantageous.
- A collaborative, non‑corporate working culture where staff wellbeing and professional integrity are prioritised.
