Job PurposeAn exciting opportunity in the School of Cancer Sciences at the University of Glasgow to join a team researching the early stages of liver cancer and the establishment of a diseased state in the liver. The successful candidate would be expected to contribute to research output and support other researchers in the laboratory. Technical expertise using in vivo disease models, histology, imaging and molecular biology would be required.
Along with a willingness to contribute to general laboratory upkeep and organisation.
- Provide in-depth technical support and solutions for group members to ensure the delivery of research objectives.
- Contribute to the overall smooth and efficient running of the lab to ensure an excellent experience for all group members.
- In liaison with the principal investigator, develop and test new equipment, procedures, protocols and technical models. Diagnose faults and troubleshoot day-to-day problems to enable continuation of research objectives.
- Design, plan and organise technical activities to meet the needs of the research team within agreed timescales.
- Advise and provide guidance to group members in the best application and operation of technical resources.
- In liaison with the principal investigator, monitor technical standards, advise, implement and evaluate improvements to existing protocols as required.
- Collect, analyse and interpret data using standard procedures and ensure that accurate records are kept and databases are updated accordingly. Present findings accurately.
- Where relevant, maintain appropriate stock levels, including appropriate preparation of specialised media and samples as required, and purchase consumables and supplies within defined budget.
- Where relevant and in consultation with the principal investigator, ensure the safe and efficient functioning of the technical workspace and facilities, implementing health and safety policies as determined by the University and the Health and Safety Executive. Support the completion of risk assessments.
- Where relevant supervise junior team members including allocating work and monitoring progress and outputs.
- Collaborate with colleagues and participate in team meetings/discussions and contribute to the wider College and School activities as required, including the Technician Commitment key themes,

Knowledge, Qualifications, Skills and Experience Essential- A1 Scottish Credit and Qualification Framework level 7 [Advanced Higher / Scottish vocational Qualification level 3, Higher National Certificate] or equivalent, and experience of personal development in a similar role.
- A2 Demonstrable in‑depth technical knowledge and experience aligned to disease modelling specified in the job description. Including use of animal models, histological and imaging techniques and molecular biology techniques.
- B1 Extensive Knowledge or Qualifications Pertaining to Cancer Biology.
- B2 Understanding of relevant health and safety policies and procedures relative to the role, and the quality outputs and standards required.
- C1 Excellent and demonstratable laboratory technical skills.
- C2 Significant IT skills, including proficient user of relevant specialist and standard software packages.
- C3 Well‑developed analytical and problem‑solving capability, including high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
