Overview

The University of Glasgow is recruiting a Research Associate in Socio-Economic and Systems Modelling to support interdisciplinary research that addresses complex societal challenges by integrating socio-economic analysis with systems-based approaches. This full-time, fixed-term role is designed for a researcher who can contribute to collaborative projects where quantitative modelling and qualitative insights come together to explore and interpret dynamic social and economic systems.

The successful candidate will be part of a vibrant academic community with strong links across disciplines, engaging in research that informs policy, enhances theoretical understanding, and translates academic rigour into real-world impact. The position offers opportunities to contribute to scholarly writing, data analysis, model development, and academic dissemination activities.

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must hold (or be nearing completion of) a PhD at Scottish Credit and Qualification Framework level 12 in a relevant discipline such as environmental science, economics, systems science, applied mathematics, computational social science, geography, sociology, or another closely related field that equips them to address socio-economic modelling challenges.

Qualifications / Expertise

The role requires strong analytical skills and proficiency in socio-economic modelling methods, systems approaches, or related quantitative techniques. Candidates should demonstrate experience with managing and interpreting complex datasets, developing or applying models to real-world problems, and communicating research outcomes to both academic and non-academic audiences. Excellent written and verbal communication abilities, capacity for independent research, and collaboration within multidisciplinary teams are essential for success in this position.
