Job PurposeThe role is within the School of Infection and Immunity, MRC‑University of Glasgow Centre for Virus Research (CVR) and contributes to the ERC‑funded project vRNP‑capture. The successful candidate will conduct viral RNA interactome capture, generate and analyse protease‑deficient viral mutants, integrate proteomics and RNA biology, and collaborate with international experts. They will also contribute to publications, funding proposals, and project management.
MainDuties and Responsibilities
- Plan and conduct research in line with project deliverables and CVR strategy.
- Comply with ERC work monitoring and policies, maintaining the highest ethical standards.
- Document research output, including data analysis, record keeping, and report writing.
- Establish and maintain a strong research profile and reputation through quality publications.
- Survey literature, develop research strategy, and stay up‑to‑date with field advances.
- Present work at conferences and seminars.
- Identify potential funding sources and assist in proposal development.
- Develop and manage internal and external collaborations.
- Lead laboratory meetings and wider CVR activities.
- Supervise, mentor, and train students, interns, and junior team members.
- Generate, manage, and store data according to project standards.
- Perform administrative tasks related to budgets, ordering, and lab management.
- Contribute to teaching activities and public outreach in consultation with the PI.
- Engage in personal, professional, and career development.
- Support the University’s international profile in line with strategic plans.
- Academic – Scottish Credit and Qualification Framework level 12 (PhD) in molecular biology, biochemistry, virology or microbiology, or equivalent professional qualifications with post‑doctoral experience.
- Comprehensive knowledge of current issues and future directions in molecular virology and RNA biology.
- Well‑developed working knowledge of research methods, viral infection systems, molecular cloning, mammalian cell culture, microscopy, and RNA biology.
- Substantial depth of relevant research experience, including postdoctoral work and a strong track record of publications.
- Proven experience in OMIC approaches and computational data analysis.
- Experience in planning and progressing work within professional guidelines, adopting independent judgement.
- At least one first‑author research article in a reputed peer‑reviewed journal.
- Experience in pursuing research funding and collaborative publishing.
- Research creativity and cross‑disciplinary collaboration.
- Team leadership and supervisory skills.
- Highly motivated, initiative‑driven, quick learner.
- Excellent interpersonal and collegiate communication skills.
- Superior oral and written communication, including public presentations.
- Organisational and project budget management.
- Data analysis and interpretation.

- Experience translating research into societal and economic impact.
- Teaching and assessment design experience.
- Experience supervising, mentoring, or advising students.
- Programming in R and/or Python.
- Familiarity with RNA interactome capture and related protein–RNA interaction methods.
Salary:
Grade 7, £41,064–£46,049 per annum.
Position is full‑time with funding until 30 November 2027.
