RoleWe are seeking a Band 5 registered nurse to join our enthusiastic surgical receiving nursing team in Glasgow Royal Infirmary.
You will work in a fast paced surgical receiving ward environment where you can gain experience in a variety of general surgical specialties. Glasgow Royal Infirmary has two receiving wards:
Ward 63 (30 beds) and Ward 64 (30 beds). We see patients direct from A&E and GP for assessment, with a wide range of surgical conditions. You will be involved in planning and delivering safe nursing care to this group of patients.
Glasgow Royal Infirmary is a tertiary referral centre with patients from surrounding health boards. The surgical receiving provides development prospects and the opportunity to develop knowledge and skills. Surgical receiving will allow you to gain skills towards managing the unscheduled care target and safe and efficient flow of the patient journey.
You will have the opportunity to work alongside and be supported by experienced nurses, surgical nurse practitioners and the wider multidisciplinary team.
This role is fast paced and interesting and suitable for a motivated nurse with an interest in surgical receiving.
Responsibilities- Plan and deliver safe nursing care to the surgical receiving patient group.
- Contribute to the management of the unscheduled care target and patient flow.
- Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team to provide essential nursing care.
- Live NMC UK pin is required to be considered for this post.
- Previous experience is advantageous and an interest in Surgical Receiving Nursing is desirable.

As from 1st April 2026, Agenda for Change full-time working week reduces from 37 to 36 hours; part-time hours pro-rata. There will be a corresponding increase in hourly rate.
