We’re looking for an experienced, values-driven Head of Programmes (ENGAGE) to lead and develop YDance’s national participatory dance work for children and young people across Scotland.

This senior role is ideal for someone with strong programme leadership experience, a passion for youth and community arts, and a belief in the transformative power of dance.

Glasgow City Centre (hybrid: 3 office / 1 remote)

Fixed-term until 31 March 2029 | 0.8 FTE (4 days per week)

About the role

You’ll be responsible for the strategic planning, delivery and development of YDance’s ENGAGE programmes — ensuring high-quality, impactful projects that align with our Strategic Development Plan 2025–2028.

You’ll work closely with partners, funders, staff and the YDance CEOs to grow our reach locally, nationally and internationally.

Key responsibilities
  • Lead and manage national and small-scale participatory dance programmes
  • Develop and sustain partnerships across youth, education, culture, social justice and third-sector organisations
  • Line‑manage project-based teaching staff, supporting high standards of practice
  • Oversee project budgets, monitoring spend and reporting to monthly budget reviews
  • Ensure safeguarding and adherence to organisational policies at all times
  • Monitor, evaluate and report on impact to funders, partners and CEOs
  • Represent YDance in advocacy, policy discussions, networks and sector forums
  • Support funding development alongside the Fundraiser and CEOs
  • Collaborate with Marketing to increase reach and engagement
  • Develop and manage accredited courses and awards across programmes
We’re looking for someone who has
  • Significant experience managing programmes in youth, community, cultural or education settings
  • Strong people‑management skills and experience supporting staff
  • Budget management and financial monitoring experience
  • Confidence representing an organisation across diverse settings
  • Experience evaluating impact and reporting to funders
  • Excellent communication and time‑management skills
  • A strong belief in the power of the arts for children and young people

Experience with accredited qualifications, trauma‑informed practice, funding applications, dance delivery, training design, and knowledge of the Scottish education system.

Terms
  • 30 hours per week (flexible working)
  • Hybrid working: 3 days in the Glasgow office, 1 day remote
  • Travel across Scotland (expenses reimbursed)
  • 26 days annual leave (pro rata) + 11 public holidays
