Yard Operative

We are seeking a dedicated Yard Operative to manage and maintain our stock and yard operations in our depot. This role is crucial in ensuring our operational teams have the materials and support they need to excel.

Please note the role will initially be based in our depot on Duke Street in Glasgow before moving to our new depot in Bellshill around May–June 2026. Before applying, please consider the transfer to the new location.

Your operational responsibilities will include the efficient movement and storage of materials and plant around the Yard area, as well as preparing material packs in advance for operational gangs. You will be responsible for maintaining the cleanliness of the Yard and support areas, assisting with stock checks and audits, monitoring waste bins and skips, and supporting mechanics with the movement of plant and vehicles.

You will monitor the Yard to prevent slips, trips, and falls, adhering to GCU's Health & Safety policies, processes, and risk assessments, while setting an example by wearing the appropriate PPE.

You will follow GCU’s Plant and Equipment Management processes and tagging systems, accurately preparing material packs according to picking lists to ensure efficiency and reliability.

As a qualified Yard Operative, you should ideally have Telehandler training or demonstrate a willingness to complete this training. Possessing a valid driving license (Category B, minimum) is essential for the role. You should have prior experience in a yard or stores position, showcasing familiarity with site operations and safety practices. Additionally, the ability to work without supervision and efficiently, using your own initiative to manage tasks, is crucial to excel in this environment.
