The primary role of the Commercial Director is to provide operational commercial support to the Regional Managing Director, leading the commercial team within the regional business to ensure that the business objectives are met while continuously assessing risk and opportunity.
About the role- Assist and advise on legal and contractual matters during pre‑construction (as directed by the RMD).
- Produce monthly financial results, including forecasting the year‑end financial position.
- Develop and present commercial strategies and proposals.
- Carry out internal audits and cost/value investigations on projects with concerns about programme slippage and report findings.
- Ensure that all commercial policies and procedures are implemented diligently and raise non‑conformances to the RMD for corrective action. Monitor that all projects have actual versus planned cash‑flows, that variations and final accounts processes are applied. Conduct regular assurance visits to projects.
- Act professionally to protect and maintain the Company’s good standing within the industry and its clients.
- Ensure that the business focuses on delivering Robertson Group Strategic Objectives and embeds Group Strategies, measured via Key Performance Indicators.
- Negotiate and utilise robust main and sub‑contract provisions in each project to minimise risk.
- Continuously review supply‑chain suitability, ensure compliance with Group minimum standards and report issues regarding commercial and contractual performance on projects.
- Governance & Risk – Ensure robust governance and risk management, review and strengthen processes and risk management in all areas.
- Constantly monitor project risk, opportunity, recovery, cash‑flows and expenditure and advise the RMD of any changes to budget/forecasted outcomes.
- Attend Regional Board meetings.
- Relevant Quantity Surveying degree.
- Wide experience of the construction marketplace.
- Excellent knowledge of procurement processes.
- Experience delivering targets through effective appointment and management of all construction teams.
