Position: Specialist Community Dietitian For Enteral Feeding Service - Community Nutrition & Dietetic

The postholder will be a Specialist Dietitian for the Nutrition and Dietetic Service in Enteral Feeding Service across agreed localities within the boundaries of NHSGGC Community Dietetic Service, reporting to the Team Leader.

  • In the planning, organising and delivery of an evidence based Dietetic Service to patients and carers, medical, nursing and AHP staff based on National and local priorities
  • To be a clinical expert providing a specialist dietetic clinical service, advice and support to patients and professionals on Enteral Feeding
  • To provide clinical specialist support and advice to Mental Health Dietitians in the management of mental health inpatients
  • In the planning, organising and delivery of a seamless service for patients on Enteral Feeding transferring between Adult Acute Dietetic Services and Community
  • Develop and maintain a database for all patients on Enteral Feeding living within the boundaries of NHSGGC and contribute on behalf of NHSGGC to the national register of Enteral Feeding patients
  • In the supervision, teaching and mentoring of dietitians, student dietitians and dietetic and / or health care support workers and clerical staff on Enteral Feeding
  • In the planning, organising and delivery of nutrition education and training relating to Enteral Feeding for health care professionals, including medical and nursing staff and staff from other agencies
  • Contribute to the further development of the Nutrition and Dietetic Service across NHSGGC
Duration, Location, and Working Pattern:
  • A rare and exciting development opportunity for a Band 6 Specialist Community Enteral Feeding Dietitian to join the Enteral Feeding Service, part of a friendly and enthusiastic community team based in the South Glasgow Quadrant of NHS GG&C
  • The shift pattern for this post is 4 days per week
  • This post is fixed‑term for a period of 9 months
  • Please note the salary is Pro Rata for part time hours
Key responsibilities:
  • Have a broad knowledge base of feeding tubes and equipment required to provide appropriate feeding to the patient
  • To be responsible for the utilisation of various clinical and environment risk assessment tools in order to identify actual and potential risks and ensure implementation of appropriate interventions
  • To be responsible for reporting incidents and critically appraising them in order to reduce any recurrences and participate in further investigations as required
  • Prioritise, plan and provide home visits / clinics to patients on EF with a range of complex medical and social needs and requiring expert dietetic intervention and ongoing support. This involves lone working
  • Assess and diagnose the nutritional status of patients, many with highly complex medical and social needs, and prioritise for treatment based on clinical judgement
  • Assessment of patients’ nutritional status based on physiological measurements, analysing biochemical data and using high levels of skill to obtain accurate anthropometric measurements
  • Develop and implement an individually agreed nutritional care plan. This will be achieved by working within established protocols and procedures endorsed by the post holder. This requires a high level of persuasion, motivation and negotiation skills. Care will be delivered in a variety of settings including patient’s home, care homes and health centres
  • Monitor and review nutritional care plans against outcome measures and adjust care plans to facilitate the achievement of treatment goals
  • Advise and recommend on use of ‘prescription only’ and appropriate prescribable borderline substances (ACBS) for individual patients and monitor intervention
