The role:
Applicants will need to have significant experience working with children and young people with speech, language and communication differences or previous experience working as an SLT Clinical Support Worker.
- To assist and support the speech and language therapy team to provide a service to individuals or groups of clients with a wide range of speech, language and communication needs and/or eating and drinking difficulties
- To carry out therapy programmes and liaise with clients, carers and others. The post holder will have a delegated responsibility for independently managing the therapy programme. He/she will develop, implement, evaluate and modify therapy interventions to meet the therapy aims planned jointly with the speech and language therapist
- To support the development and work of less experienced / qualified speech and language therapy support worker staff
- We are looking for an enthusiastic and passionate Band 4 Speech and Language Therapy Clinical Support Worker to join our Team in East Renfrewshire
- We are a supportive team of 10 registered and non-registered practitioners based in Barrhead Health and Care Centre
- The shift pattern for this post is Monday to Friday, 08:30 to 16:30
- Please note this is a fixed term post for 12 months
- To work with a delegated and specified caseload with direction and support as agreed with the speech and language therapist
- To implement speech and language therapy programmes evaluating and modifying interventions, requesting advice/support from the speech and language therapist or other members of the team as necessary
- To carry out specified tasks as part of an assessment as delegated by the speech and language therapist
- To liaise with other professionals, support staff, and carers ensuring that they understand the speech and language therapy intervention, referring back to the supervising speech and language therapist as necessary
- To provide clients and parents/carers with practical information or advice as required this will demand an understanding of the client’s condition
- To provide clinical information and advice to the multi-disciplinary team, other professionals and parents/carers as agreed with the speech and language therapist in order to inform decision‑making relevant to the client’s management
- To liaise with parents/carers/educators and other agencies to collate and determine the appropriate information to produce communication boards/books /passports
- To provide advice, opinion and practical support on augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) to speech and language therapy colleagues, clients, parents/carers and others
- To devise and deliver practical training to support workers, speech and language therapists and other members of the multi-disciplinary team.
E.g. Boardmaker, AAC systems - To contribute to theoretical training for parents/carers, educators and others, planning and delivering the content of training with the speech and language therapist
- To demonstrate therapy interventions to other health and education staff and parents/carers
- To motivate clients to engage and participate in therapy programmes
- To design and prepare materials and equipment including the use of symbols, programming AAC, photocopying and the use of digital cameras and videos
- To provide advice and be the first point of contact to other speech and language therapy support workers on a range of practical clinical issues

- Ability to demonstrate knowledge to enable SLT interventions to be modified and to develop individual and group activities to meet client needs. This can be demonstrated by:
- Speech and Language Therapy HNC or relevant formal training to diploma level
- Or:
- SVQ 111 Allied Health Professional Support (SLT) plus formal training to diploma level equivalent
- Plus:
- In‑depth knowledge of communication development
- Knowledge of disability and its impact on clients, families and carers
