Overview

The role: The focus of this job is to provide health and social care support to individuals experiencing a first episode of psychosis, whose care is managed by Esteem. The purpose is to provide additional support to the clinical team which will involve working closely with a variety of disciplines including nursing, social work, occupational therapy and psychology.

The post-holder will be expected to take part in a wide range of therapeutic activities as directed by clinicians and as identified in care plans. Duties will include crisis support; engagement; monitoring of treatment compliance; group work; income maximisation; socialisation and establishing close links with local leisure, vocational, educational and employment organisations. The post-holder will be expected to manage a range of duties delegated to them including participating in assessment procedures, accurate record keeping, the transportation of items/clients and participation in MDT meetings.

The post holder will be expected to participate in clinical supervision and appraisal as an integral part of this post.

Duration, Location, and Working Pattern

This is a permanent part-time post (29.6 hours) based within Gartnavel/Leverndale Hospital.

These hours will be worked over Tuesday to Friday, 9am-5pm.

Key responsibilities
  • To deliver high quality 1:1 interventions as defined in care plans and as agreed with case managers
  • To deliver interventions aimed at enhancing functional performance as defined in occupational therapy care plans
  • To participate in the occupational therapy group programme and take responsibility for the planning, organisation and delivery of therapeutic activities as defined by the occupational therapist
  • To deliver nursing interventions as defined in nursing care plans
  • To collect, transport and monitor compliance with medication as identified in nursing care plans
  • To deliver psychological interventions as identified in care plans and to link in with the team psychologist to ensure best practice
  • To deliver high quality social interventions that take into account age-appropriate needs as identified in social care plans
  • To complete community care assessments as required and link in with social care staff to consider identified client need
  • To participate in care plan reviews and routine MDT discussions
  • To ensure accurate and up-to-date record keeping both manual and electronic
  • To be aware of age appropriate interventions and keep up to date with local resources for young people and to impart this information with the wider MDT
Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job
  • The Inpatient Auxiliary requires a level of theoretical knowledge, obtained either through an SVQIII in healthcare or gained through experience working in a caring environment/role.
  • SVQ in health/social care or equivalent
  • Experience of working in the field of mental health
  • Awareness of mental health legislation in practice, including the implementation of advance statements
  • Experience of working in health/social care teams
  • Ability to work as part of multidisciplinary team
  • Awareness of the principles of early intervention in first episode psychosis
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Effective time management skills
  • Ability to work on own initiative
  • Ability to work in non judgemental way
  • Ability to work with people and as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Ability to work unsupervised.
  • Ability to carry out assigned tasks effectively in a busy environment, with supervision
