Principal Clinical Scientist - Clinical Physics and Bioengineering

Based at the ICE building, Queen Elizabeth University Hospital campus, the post holder is an MRI Physicist, competent to act in the role of MR Safety Expert (as defined by MHRA) within a team that provides clinical scientific MR physics services for NHS GGC and number of Health Boards as part of service level agreements.

• Provides scientific leadership and support for the delivery of highly advanced and specialised clinical diagnostic services in clinical Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) throughout NHS GGC.
• Analyses and interprets highly complex and specialist patient diagnostic procedures.
• Teaches and trains junior clinical scientist staff, radiographers and undergraduate students.
• Ensures that any work carried out complies with relevant statutory requirements, including the area of MRI safety.
• As an MR Safety Expert advises on MRI Safety Guidelines to the MRI units that the MRI Physics Group support.
• Provides support for agreed research and clinical development projects.
• Supports and leads on the introduction of new, improved and optimised methods, techniques and service improvements utilising best available evidence, national guidance and results from research and development.
• Provides the MRI service with Quality Control and performance assessment.
• Collaborates with DCPB staff working in other imaging modalities where possible; both for clinical service delivery and clinical research.

These include amongst others

• Accredited MR Safety Expert, or with sufficient knowledge, experience and practical ability to fulfil the specialist role of MR Safety Expert
• 1st or 2.1 Honours degree in Physics, Engineering or a related subject is required.
• An MSc in Clinical Physics or a related subject is required (or demonstration of an equivalent level of scientific expertise and academic achievement)
• State Registration as a Clinical Scientist (Medical Physics)
• Evidence of Continuous Professional Development
• Membership of a Professional Body (e.g. Institute of Physics and Engineering in Medicine (IPEM)) at an appropriate level (e.g. Member) is desirable.
