Lead Nurse – Urology & Outpatients North Sector

Urology & Outpatients has an exciting opportunity to recruit into the position of Lead Nurse for Urology & Outpatients North Sector. You will provide clinical, professional and managerial leadership to nursing staff within the Urology and Outpatients Service, ensuring the objectives and quality standards of the following strands of NHS Scotland’s National Quality Strategy and National Nursing and Midwifery Quality Assurance Framework are achieved and any future national initiatives.

  • Care Assurance System (CAS), Excellence in care (EiC)
  • HEI prevention and control measures
  • Scottish Patient Safety Programme (SPSP)
  • Older People in Acute Hospital standards (OPAH)
  • Person Centred Care

The post‑holder will be a credible leader and have a consistent approach to supporting the clinical teams in the implementation of the quality of clinical care standards (CAS/EiC and ultimately CAS embedment). CAS is a continuous improvement approach to achieving a set of standards for the delivery of safe, effective and person‑centred care. The post‑holder will also support non‑clinical staff to provide services that are responsive, person‑centred and meet the organisation's care assurance quality standards.

Additionally, the post‑holder will have a clear understanding of the Combined Care Assurance Audit Tool (CCAAT) and how this tool is utilised locally and strategically to provide care assurance across the in‑patient environment.

In partnership with the Chief Nurse, General Manager, Clinical Service Manager, finance, human resources and medical colleagues, the Lead Nurse will deliver Sector/Directorate department plans which drive financial efficiency and quality initiatives across the Sector/Directorate simultaneously ensuring person‑centred care is at the forefront of all decision‑making.

Key Responsibilities
  • Partner with the Chief Nurse, General Manager, Clinical Service Manager, finance, human resources and medical colleagues to deliver sector and directorate department plans that drive financial efficiency and quality initiatives.
  • Support implementation of quality of clinical care standards (CAS/EiC) and ensure CAS embedment.
  • Provide leadership to clinical staff and support non‑clinical staff in delivering responsive, person‑centred services.
  • Utilise the Combined Care Assurance Audit Tool (CCAAT) locally and strategically to provide care assurance across the in‑patient environment.
  • Manage and investigate Serious Critical Incidents and participate in Root Cause Analysis investigations.
  • Review and approve local Datix incidents in a timely manner, ensuring feedback and shared learning to staff.
  • Implement Duty of Candour legislation and communicate effectively with patients and their families.
Qualifications and Requirements
  • NMC registration is required.
  • Travel across multiple sites as part of the role.
