At SP Energy Networks (SPEN), we keep electricity flowing to more than 3 million homes and businesses across Central & Southern Scotland, and North Wales, Merseyside and Cheshire. As we invest in the networks needed for a Net Zero future, understanding - and influencing - the evolving political and regulatory landscape is essential.
Major policy shifts around Net Zero, energy security, Just Transition and market reform will directly shape how we build, operate and maintain our Transmission and Distribution networks. To help us stay ahead of these developments, we re looking for a Government Policy Analyst to support our Transmission & Distribution business and ensure SPEN s voice is heard where it matters.
What you ll be doingThe external policy environment is fast moving and increasingly complex. As a Government Policy Analyst, you ll play a crucial role in tracking, interpreting and communicating policy developments that impact SP Energy Networks.
You ll monitor debates, consultations, committee hearings and government announcements across the UK, Scottish and Welsh Governments - identifying issues that could influence our regulatory outputs, long term strategy and operational delivery.
Working closely with the Networks Government Policy Manager, you ll help craft clear, concise insights and briefings for senior leaders, develop key content for external engagements, and support SPEN s participation in policy discussions with regulators, government departments and industry bodies.
This is a unique opportunity to work at the heart of the UK s energy policy landscape and help shape the future direction of our networks business. You ll contribute directly to SPEN s engagement with government and influence decisions affecting millions of customers. You ll be part of a collaborative, supportive team and gain exposure to senior leaders, regulatory strategy and high level policy discussions.

- Support - and in some cases lead - the interpretation of policy issues, proposing mitigation options where appropriate.
- Represent SPEN s interests through written and verbal engagement with external stakeholders.
- Co ordinate and gather input from internal teams to draft consultation responses, MP letters and CEO briefings.
- Support senior management in preparing for committee appearances or key stakeholder meetings.
- Attend relevant external events and report back on policy developments that may impact SPEN.
- Work closely with the wider Regulation & Policy team to keep the business informed of emerging risks and opportunities.
- Familiarity with government and parliamentary processes, ideally within a policy or regulatory context.
- Strong ability to distil complex issues into clear, succinct insights for different audiences.
- Excellent communication and influencing skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to engage confidently with internal and external stakeholders at various levels.
