Job summary

At the forefront of the fight to ensure Britain’s energy system remains fair, affordable and resilient, Ofgem relies on robust financial modelling to guide the decisions that shape the sector. We’re looking for a Financial Modeller to join us and help build the analytical foundations that underpin major regulatory decisions across the energy market.

Ofgem is Great Britain’s independent energy regulator. We’re at the forefront of change across the energy sector, driving toward Net Zero whilst protecting energy consumers, especially vulnerable people.

We’re offering a permanent opportunity within our Analysis & Assurance Directorate, joining the team responsible for developing the core models that support our price control framework. This is your chance to work on complex, high-impact modelling that informs regulatory decisions affecting energy networks and consumers across Great Britain.

Your work will contribute directly to the analytical evidence base behind our policies and regulatory frameworks, and you’ll play an important role in maintaining and enhancing the models that underpin key regulatory processes, including those used within the RIIO price control framework.

This is a collaborative role that will see you working closely with teams across Ofgem, including regulatory finance, policy, economics and retail and contributing to strengthening modelling capability across the organisation while supporting new analytical projects that help answer critical regulatory questions.

We’re looking for someone with a strong analytical mindset and a background in economics, finance or another quantitative discipline. You’ll bring excellent technical modelling skills, particularly in Excel, along with the ability to interpret, manage and communicate complex data clearly. The ability to deliver detailed analytical work under time pressure will also be essential.

In return, you’ll join an inclusive organisation that values analytical excellence and innovation. We offer flexible working arrangements, including part-time and job-share options, alongside hybrid working, generous civil service pension and leave entitlements, and the opportunity to work with experts across regulation, economics and policy.

We have a critical purpose to develop and maintain the financial models that support vital regulatory frameworks, ensuring decisions about the energy system are grounded in robust analysis and strong evidence. In this role, you’ll help strengthen the analytical foundations that guide how the sector evolves on the path to Net Zero.
