Open to all students, the Discovery Programme is a virtual opportunity to learn about the career paths at Barclays, and be considered for our 2027 internship. We want to help you learn about the opportunities we offer and encourage you to picture yourself in the world of financial services.

• Join seminars and workshops where you’ll learn about financial services, Retail Banking as a business area, the recruitment process and Barclays as an employer.
• Participate in breakout sessions within Retail Banking, where you’ll gain insights of what you can expect from the Summer Internship in 2027.
• Build your understanding of the assessment process and next steps.
• Connect with people from across our business, including current graduates who have already made the journey that you are starting out on.
• Attend dedicated networking sessions with senior leaders and graduates aligned to your chosen business area.

From savings accounts to investments, from mortgages to credit cards, from insurance policies to digital banking, Retail Banking makes money work for customers all over the world. Retail Banking is all about developing a deep understanding of our customers’ needs and ambitions. Once we understand that, we can dream up just the right products to help them reach their goals.

You need to be 2 years out from graduation and can be studying any degree discipline. Beyond that, you need to be curious to understand how a global bank adapts in a constantly evolving environment. We are recruiting on a rolling basis, so we recommend that students apply early.

Barclays does not provide sponsorship to attend the 2‑day insight programme. However, if you are successful in securing a 2027 Summer Internship, Barclays will apply for a skilled worker visa for you.

While the Discovery Programme is virtual, if successful you will be based in Glasgow. Our campus provides inclusive, collaborative spaces and hybrid work opportunities.

To participate in the day‑to‑day activities of the retail banking division, providing insights and expertise that help senior colleagues make informed decisions, develop new products and services, and identify new market opportunities.

• Execution of small research projects, preparation of presentations and reports to communicate findings, collaboration with senior management.
• Collaboration with cross‑functional teams to support business initiatives.
• Participation in training and development programs.
• Identification of opportunities, development of business cases, and management of new product launch.
• Client relationship management and provision of customer service support.
• Development and implementation of financial models and strategies.
• Training and mentoring of junior colleagues.

• Perform prescribed activities in a timely manner and to a high standard.
• Show in‑depth technical knowledge and experience in their assigned area.
• Demonstrate leadership behaviours (if leading a team) or develop technical expertise as an individual contributor.
• Take responsibility for end results, manage risk, and uphold regulatory compliance.
• Communicate complex or sensitive information to stakeholders.
• Act as a contact point for stakeholders outside of the immediate function.
