Assystem is a leading international engineering and digital services group, supporting clients on complex, highly regulated infrastructure projects. Our Environmental Consents & Engagement (ECE) practice provides strategic environmental advice, consenting expertise and stakeholder engagement to enable the successful delivery of major developments across the UK.

We are seeking a Senior EIA Coordinator / Specialist to strengthen our ECE team, supporting major infrastructure, marine and planning projects across England and Scotland.

You will act as a senior practitioner within Assystem’s Environmental Consents & Engagement practice, leading the coordination of Environmental Impact Assessments and providing strategic advice on environmental consenting and engagement. You will work closely with clients, regulators and internal technical specialists to shape consenting strategies, manage risk and deliver high‑quality environmental submissions.

This role is suited to an experienced EIA professional who is comfortable operating at the interface of technical assessment, consenting strategy and stakeholder engagement.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and coordinate EIAs within a strategic consents and engagement framework.
  • Develop and advise on environmental consenting strategies for major infrastructure and marine projects.
  • Manage and coordinate multidisciplinary technical teams and technical inputs.
  • Prepare, review and manage Environmental Statements, Environmental Reports and supporting assessments.
  • Provide EIA support to DCO applications, Marine Licence applications and major Town and Country Planning submissions.
  • Lead engagement with regulators and statutory consultees (e.g. Planning Authorities, Marine Management Organisation, Nature Scot, SEPA, Natural England).
  • Support stakeholder and community engagement activities as part of the consenting process.
  • Identify environmental risks, opportunities and mitigation strategies early in project development.
  • Mentor junior staff and contribute to technical excellence within the ECE practice.
  • Support bid preparation, work winning and client relationship development.
About You
  • Significant experience coordinating EIAs for major infrastructure projects.
  • Strong understanding of UK environmental consenting regimes, including planning and marine consents.
  • Demonstrable experience with Marine Licensing and marine EIA.
  • Experience delivering or supporting major Town and Country Planning applications.
  • Proven experience working across both England and Scotland.
  • Strong regulator, stakeholder and client engagement skills.
  • Excellent project management and communication capabilities.
  • Good level of ecological management experience within infrastructure development.
  • Experience on major planning applications comprising EIA development, and Development Consent Orders (DCOs).
  • Chartered status (IEMA, RTPI, CIEEM or similar).
  • Experience contributing to public consultation programmes.
  • Marine or Environmental Permitting experience.
  • Consultancy or advisory background.
