Overview
At Ofgem, ensuring the energy system is planned and governed in a way that supports Net Zero requires strong technical judgement, and we’re seeking a Senior Engineer to help shape how strategic network plans, technical codes and electricity connections are scrutinised and developed.
Ofgem is Great Britain’s independent energy regulator. We’re at the forefront of change across the energy sector, driving toward Net Zero whilst protecting energy consumers, especially vulnerable people.
With an excellent benefits package and opportunities for flexible and hybrid working, we’re offering a permanent opportunity to provide engineering and policy support, focusing on strategic network development plans, electricity transmission and distribution, and the evolving framework of technical codes and standards.
You’ll play a visible role in the scrutiny of Regional Energy Strategic Plans and the Centralised Strategic Network Plan, helping ensure long-term network development across electricity, gas and hydrogen aligns with regulatory objectives and system needs.
Contributing to a whole-system thinking approach that supports the energy sector in decarbonisation efforts, you’ll also lead the assessment and decision-making of technical code modification proposals and derogations. Within this, you’ll have the chance to influence how standards evolve and ensure the regulatory framework supports innovations and remains resilient.
You’ll work across our technical and policy teams, supporting innovation work streams, price control assessments and connections determinations. With breadth and variety in your workload, you discover a role with exposure across the organisation and the energy sector that combines analytical depth with industry engagement.
ResponsibilitiesWe’re looking for a Chartered Engineer, or someone working towards registration, with a relevant engineering degree or equivalent industry experience. You’ll bring strong knowledge of technical codes and standards, familiarity with economic regulation concepts and the ability to communicate complex engineering issues clearly to non-technical audiences. Experience drafting reports or decision documents will be key to your skill set.
In return, you’ll join a collaborative and supportive environment with flexible working arrangements and opportunities to work across diverse and nationally significant projects. You’ll develop your expertise while contributing to decisions that shape the future of Great Britain’s energy networks.
We have a critical purpose to ensure energy networks are developed, governed and connected in a way that supports a secure and decarbonised future. Join us and help provide the engineering scrutiny that underpins the next phase of the energy transition.
