AECOM’s Ports and Maritime team is seeking a Maritime Engineer with a civil and structural background to play a key technical role across multiple UK and international projects.
You’ll join an established team with over 100 years of combined experience
, delivering world-class maritime and coastal infrastructure. Our portfolio includes projects for local authorities, private developers, defence clients, and internal AECOM teams in the UK and overseas.
As a Structural/Civil Maritime Engineer
, you will lead or support the design and analysis of civil and structural works in the marine and coastal environment. Typical projects include the development, rehabilitation, and protection of port and harbour structures such as quay walls, jetties, piers, revetments, breakwaters, dolphins, fendering systems, linkspan supports, and scour protection.
You’ll contribute to all stages of the project lifecycle — from concept and feasibility through to detailed design and construction support — ensuring solutions are safe, sustainable, and compliant with UK and international standards.
Flexible on location across the UK
Key Responsibilities- Undertake the structural design and analysis of maritime and coastal structures using relevant design codes (BS, Eurocodes, PIANC, CIRIA, ICE guidance).
- Develop concept, preliminary, and detailed designs for new build and refurbishment projects, including quay walls, jetties, revetments, breakwaters, dolphins, linkspans, and related works.
- Carry out stability, bearing capacity, and durability assessments of marine structures under wave, current, and corrosion effects.
- Design and specify fendering systems, mooring arrangements, and scour protection measures.
- Prepare and review technical reports, design drawings, specifications, and tender documentation.
- Conduct site inspections and structural condition surveys and prepare inspection reports.
- Liaise effectively with clients, contractors, port authorities, and regulatory bodies.
- Collaborate with geotechnical, hydraulic, environmental, and coastal process engineers across multidisciplinary teams.
- Ensure compliance with Health & Safety, Environmental, and CDM Regulations.
- Provide technical support during construction, review contractor submissions, and respond to site queries.
- Contribute to knowledge sharing, mentoring, and continuous improvement within the team.

Qualifications- MEng or BEng in Civil or Structural Engineering (or equivalent).
- Strong civil/structural design background, ideally with experience in marine or coastal infrastructure.
- Sound understanding of structural behaviour, materials (concrete, steel, sheet piles), and marine loading conditions.
- Familiarity with relevant British Standards, Eurocodes, and maritime guidance documents.
- Eligible and able to obtain Security Clearance (SC level).
