We have a great opportunity for a dynamic and motivated Principal Geo‑Environmental / Environmental Consultant specialising in contaminated land and brownfield development to join our Sustainable Land and Resource Management Practice in our Glasgow or Edinburgh offices.

The successful candidate will be an important part of an innovative and technically excellent team helping deliver projects to a number of the largest UK‑based and international infrastructure projects including nuclear new‑build. Atkins

Réalis contaminated land specialists use the full range of their skills, working on land contamination, hydrogeology and brownfield redevelopment projects as well as providing innovative solutions to engineering challenges. The work involves local and national projects and frameworks being delivered by Atkins

Réalis across a range of exciting markets, including the development of Cities, Transportation (major road and rail sectors) Water and Energy Infrastructure. We work on projects across the UK, Ireland and around the world. As a member of our friendly and supportive team you will manage a range of projects, working with our experienced staff, to deliver excellence to our clients. You will work closely with a wide range of other professionals to deliver holistic solutions to environmental and engineering problems and to identify new opportunities.

Role
  • Project management and technical delivery of a wide variety of contaminated land focused projects, including the management of finances, programme delivery and technically reviewing others' work.
  • Providing technical guidance, constructive support and mentoring to junior staff and supporting their technical development.
  • Liaison with clients, stakeholders, regulators, sub‑contractors and other internal disciplines.
  • Supporting senior management in developing new business and the preparation of commercial offers to maintain and expand the current client base.
  • Working with the local and wider Sustainable Land and Resource Management team across the UK.
About You
  • Higher education qualification in a relevant engineering or science subject (e.g. geology, geography, hydrogeology, chemistry, earth sciences, environmental science).
  • Chartered Membership of relevant professional body (if not Chartered, we would expect the candidate, with our support, to become chartered within 6 to 12 months after joining).
  • A minimum of 10 years relevant post‑graduate experience (ideally within a consultancy environment) with a strong technical, people and project management skillset and a track record in winning and delivering high‑profile work
  • Technical leadership and delivery of Phase 1 Desk Studies, Phase 2 Site Investigations, remediation design and verification / validation for a range of projects and clients.
  • Commercial awareness and understanding including being able to complete tenders.
  • Good working knowledge and demonstrable understanding of the relevant legislation, technical guidance, industry standards and best practice for contaminated land, materials management and waste.
  • Customer focused with good relationship management skills.
Desirable Criteria (but not essential)
  • Registered SiLC and SQP.
  • Experience and knowledge of managing NEC3/4 and/or ICE contracts.
