Lead Engineering Transformation in a Major UK Financial Services Organisation

We are supporting a long established UK financial services organisation that is going through a significant technology transformation. As part of this journey the business is moving away from reliance on external suppliers and is bringing modern engineering capability in house. They are now looking for an Engineering Director who combines deep technical expertise with senior leadership experience.

The Role

As Engineering Director, you will lead the teams responsible for delivering the organisation’s end to end client lifecycle platform spanning onboarding, servicing, workflow automation, data flows, CRM and integration technologies.

This is a highly technical leadership role where you will influence architecture, drive engineering excellence and guide multidisciplinary teams across software engineering, integrations, data engineering, Dev Ops and CRM development.

You will

• Set the technical direction for the client lifecycle platform and define how onboarding, servicing and reporting evolve through modern architecture.
• Lead internal engineering, CRM, data and integration teams to build secure, scalable and automated processes using tools such as Salesforce, Xplan, Mule Soft, Fivetran, Amazon S3 and Snowflake.
• Reduce reliance on external partners by developing strong in house capability, standards and engineering culture.
• Act as hands on design authority reviewing and approving high and low level technical designs, ensuring alignment across CRM configuration, integrations, data models and workflow processes.
• Lead agile delivery across PIs, sprints and feature backlogs, driving predictable velocity across engineering squads.
• Own risk, dependency and issue management across integration, data migration and delivery readiness.
• Partner with front office, operations, compliance and technology leaders to ensure solutions meet regulatory, operational and client needs.
• Ensure platform stability, performance and quality through strong Dev Ops, CI CD, monitoring, controls and environment management.
• Support the transition to BAU, building sustainable operating models and embedding strong ownership across internal teams.

About You

You are an engineering leader who brings both senior level influence and genuine hands on technical capability. You will thrive here if you enjoy diving into architectural detail, shaping engineering practices and guiding teams through large scale transformation.

You will bring

• Demonstrable experience leading software engineering and technical teams, ideally within financial services or another regulated sector.
• Strong technical leadership skills across engineering, data, CRM, integrations and Dev Ops.
• Practical experience with modern engineering disciplines including CI CD, version control, monitoring, security, access control and platform reliability.
• Ability to translate complex business processes into clear technical designs, target architectures and scalable delivery patterns.
• Experience leading transformation or replatforming programmes with multiple squads and high cross functional engagement.
• A coaching led leadership style that develops in house capability and embeds strong engineering standards.
• Excellent stakeholder management, able to engage senior leaders, challenge constructively and build alignment across business and technology teams.
• A relevant degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Analytics or similar.
