About the Role

We are seeking motivated and detail‑oriented Foundation Fire Risk Assessors to join the Property Compliance team. You will play a crucial role in ensuring fire safety compliance by conducting thorough Fire Risk Assessments in various low‑risk premises.

This position is ideal for individuals with a solid foundation in fire safety, looking to develop their expertise and contribute to a safer environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Carry out planned and reactive Fire Risk Assessments in a variety of premise types across low‑risk environments, identifying and using appropriate practices to evaluate any fire risks present.
  • Prepare and present suitable and sufficient Fire Risk Assessment reports that satisfy legal requirements with appropriate actions for clients, providing immediate feedback on the findings and giving fire safety advice where required.
  • Provide technical fire safety advice to clients based on a thorough knowledge of UK Fire Safety Legislation, associated guidance, and standards, having an awareness of their own knowledge, limitations, and capabilities.
  • Carry out other functions that fall within the risk assessor skill set, direct or indirect liaising with contractors, regulators, etc., and bespoke support requested by the client.
  • Work carefully and diligently by following fire safety legislation, guidance, and standards in delivering suitable and sufficient Fire Risk Assessments; plan and schedule work so tasks can be completed on time and to the relevant Standard.
  • Identify hazards and assess the potential risk of a fire while also identifying appropriate risk control measures, taking opportunities to reflect and learn.
  • Keep up to date with changes in legislation, guidance, etc. to contribute to the maintenance of your own competency and maintain your knowledge of Fire Risk Assessment practice.
  • Record and maintain a record of continuous professional development in line with professional bodies’ requirements.
  • Work with others – such as fire services, buildings and facilities managers, surveyors, fire engineers and landlords – to develop, amend and implement fire safety plans and provide fire safety advice to clients, both verbally and in a detailed written report which can include a fire safety action plan.
  • Take part in and proactively react to feedback from validators on the suitability and sufficiency of your Fire Risk Assessment activities, taking all opportunities to improve Fire Risk Assessment practices.
Requirements
  • The fire risk assessor must have a full clean driving licence and access to their own or a company‑provided vehicle, be willing to travel throughout the UK and be prepared for overnight stays as part of day‑to‑day activity.
  • Assessors should be fully conversant with current fire safety legislation and technical standards, as well as a full understanding of current fire safety issues, trends and best practices.
  • It is essential that you have completed a series of nationally recognised training courses of at least certificate level; preferably listed on a nationally recognised register of competent fire risk assessors.
  • Able to manage your own work activities with minimal supervision, confident in making contact with clients and responsible persons, and able to manage your own workload.
  • Nice to have:
    Any of the following certificates – NEBOSH Fire Safety Certificate, Fire Risk Assessment Training (Level 2 or
    3), Institution of Fire Engineers (IFE) Membership or Certification, BAFE SP205 Certification (Fire Risk Assessors), IFSM Membership, Fire Safety Awareness and Risk Assessment Training (via City & Guilds or IOSH), FRA Competency Council Guidance Alignment, Level 4 Diploma in Fire Safety (Fire Inspectors), Nationally Accredited Fire Risk Assessors Register (NAFRAR) or the IFE Register of Fire Risk Assessors.
