Where you’ll be workingWithin SP Energy Networks, we are focusing on harnessing technology and innovation to create the networks of the future. With distribution networks designed for predictable, stable demand, it’s vital we upgrade our network to create the flexibility required to cope with the extensive changes to electricity demand, generation and consumer behaviour. Through technology and innovation, we will enable a consumer‑led revolution in the use and operation of our system.

What you’ll be doingOur new data, digital and communications ecosystem will generate vast increases in the volume and frequency of data collected from across our networks and assets. These systems provide data that enable us to be more proactive in how we manage our electricity networks to enable the UK's transition to Net Zero.
Working with operational data like energy flow, usage and voltage, data associated with our network equipment like cables, overhead lines and switch gear or business, financial or process data you will develop your skills in data science to enable you to transform this data into useful information to be used to inform business decisions and future strategy. The skills developed will include energy network understanding, proficiency in a range of programming languages and the ability to utilise multiple algorithm methodologies in a real industry setting.
Learning& Placement
Spending the first 18 months of your programme on campus at University of Glasgow your learning will be split into teaching blocks along with 2 days per fortnight with your placement team at our Headquarters in Glasgow city centre. You will be assigned to a specific business area which focuses on one of the following:
Network Data and Intelligence, Data Architecture & Strategy, Network Digitalisation and Cyber Security. During your degree, you will do placements linked to your modules, providing you with the opportunity to see how your studies relate to real‑life scenarios giving you that additional dimension that you won’t get from a traditional undergraduate degree.
On completion of your programme, you will graduate with a degree in Software Engineering.

You’ll do a Software Engineering (Graduate Apprenticeship) BSc at Glasgow University. You’ll have four Highers at a minimum of BBBB including Maths and two Science subjects.
