Senior Principal Protection & Control Design Engineer

Location: Glasgow, Scotland, United Kingdom
As a Senior Principal P&C Engineer, you will lead and collaborate with a passionate team on projects up to 400 kV, taking them from concept through detailed design and supporting construction and energisation. Projects span HVDC, interconnectors, wind farms, substations, OHL, geotechnical solutions, building design, protection systems, LVAC, FEED, new builds, remediation, and connection schemes. Ideally, you have experience working with key T&D clients in the UK.
Your Role
- Develop scoping documentation and Main Connections & Protection Diagrams.
- Review Protection & Control Designs developed by third parties.
- Specify P&C related equipment and plant such as relays, CTs, and VTs.
- Produce detailed designs including AC/DC schematics.
- Conduct protection grading studies, produce relay files and settings.
- Review Commissioning Plans and attend Commissioning Panel meetings.
About You
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in electrical engineering or a related field.
- Experience working on Distribution Networks as a Senior/Principal Protection & Control Design Engineer.
- Knowledge and experience with protection relays and relay panels, CT & VT sizing calculations, protection grading studies, and producing detailed AC/DC drawings.
- Familiarity with UK electrical practices and standards and an understanding/appreciation of CDM regulations.
- High regard for safety with demonstrable experience in risk mitigation.
- Experience working with National Grid processes.
