Join Jacobs as a Civil Engineering Apprentice (Level
6) – Bridges & Structures in Glasgow. This apprenticeship offers an opportunity to study alongside working, aiming to achieve a UK Level 6 qualification at the University of Strathclyde.

About The Opportunity

As a Bridges & Structures apprentice, you will be involved in the full project lifecycle, from initial options analysis through outline and detailed design, to potential on‑site support during construction. Responsibilities include assisting with and planning bridge inspections, producing technical drawings using AutoCAD, and performing engineering calculations that progress in complexity as your knowledge develops. You will collaborate with internal disciplines, external stakeholders, clients and contractors.

The role offers a mix of office‑based work and site duties.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist with bridge inspection planning and execution.
  • Produce technical drawings using AutoCAD.
  • Perform engineering calculations with increasing complexity.
  • Collaborate across internal and external teams.
  • Shadow experienced colleagues and gradually assume greater responsibilities.
Qualifications and Skills
  • A minimum of 120 UCAS tariff points including grade B in A-level Mathematics or equivalent.
  • Interest in bridge engineering.
  • Strong communication and team‑working skills.
  • Flexible, proactive self‑starter passionate about new skills.
  • Ability to adapt and prioritise while juggling work and study.
  • Enthusiasm to apply skills to real‑world problems.
  • Empathy and listening skills to understand clients’ requirements.
  • A range of life experiences (e.g., bar work, sports captainship, volunteering).
  • Permanent right to work in the UK.
