Job Purpose

To make a substantial and positive contribution to the strategic direction of the School/College by developing a research profile of international standard associated with the research themes of the School of Biodiversity One Health and Veterinary Medicine and by contributing to the delivery of an excellent student experience by delivering, organising and reviewing teaching and assessment processes associated with undergraduate teaching of veterinary anatomy.

To actively engage in relationships with external stakeholders that advance knowledge exchange, public understanding and outreach.

Applications are invited from candidates demonstrating potential to become internationally recognised leaders with the research themes of the School of Biodiversity One Health and Veterinary Medicine. We are looking for a candidate who will complement our existing strengths in clinical veterinary medicine, evolutionary biology, animal physiology, and Veterinary Education and Scholarship with a demonstrable interest in using domestic mammals among their study systems.

We are particularly interested in applications from candidates with an interest in veterinary anatomy.

Main Duties and Responsibilities
  • Contribute to the planning, organisation and delivery of veterinary anatomy teaching on undergraduate and/or postgraduate courses in accordance with the subject’s priorities including accepting responsibilities as co-ordinator for one or more modules/courses.
  • Contribute to the on-going development and design of the curriculum in a manner that supports a research-led and scholarly approach to student learning and assessment in the discipline and/or profession.
  • Participate fully in examination and other assessment processes, as appropriate, using a variety of methods and techniques and to provide effective, timely and appropriate feedback to students to support their learning.
  • Develop effective approaches to the use of learning technologies to support and enhance course delivery, course organisation, feedback and assessment. This may involve blended and/or online provision.
  • Contribute to the development of theory and practice in the subject area.
  • Develop and progress individual/joint research projects of international standard associated with the research themes of the School of Biodiversity One Health and Veterinary Medicine, with the support of a mentor, as required.
  • Write up research findings/outcomes for publication in leading journals for dissemination as appropriate, identifying potential sources and contributing to funding applications as an individual or team member.
  • Contribute fully to developing and enhancing the research profile of the School/College, including establishing a track record of high-quality publication.
  • Supervise individual student projects at undergraduate and/or postgraduate level, and to contribute to the supervision and training of postgraduate research students, as appropriate, to ensure their effective development.
  • Take on administrative or management roles and undertake any other reasonable duties within the subject/School as assigned by the Head of School.
  • Engage in continuing professional development activities as appropriate.
  • To contribute to the enhancement of the University’s international profile in line with the University’s Strategic Plan, World Changers Together.
  • Knowledge, Qualifications, Skills and Experience Knowledge/Qualifications Essential
    • A1 PhD in a relevant subject area, or a veterinary degree registerable with the RCVS, or an equivalent qualification in a related discipline and/or teaching experience.
    Desirable
    • B1 Membership of a relevant professional body.
    • B2 Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
    • B3 Previous experience and/or scholarship relevant to the teaching of anatomy.
    Skills Essential
    • C1 Excellent communications skills, both orally and written.
    • C2 Growing reputation for research or scholarship in the relevant subject area.
    • C3 Enthusiasm for, and ability to lead, high-quality research.
    • C4 Enthusiasm for teaching at an undergraduate level.
