A Bit About the Role

We are working with a respected civil engineering contractor who is looking for a Learning & Development Business Partner to lead training, compliance, and professional development across the business. This role is all about making sure teams have the skills and knowledge they need, staying compliant, and fostering a culture of continuous learning.

You will manage the full learning lifecycle, from understanding training needs to designing programmes, delivering sessions, and evaluating outcomes. You will also support early careers programmes, compliance reporting, and wider learning initiatives, working closely with senior leaders and managers.

Daily Duties
  • Be the main point of contact for learning and development within the business and build strong relationships across teams.
  • Plan and deliver training and compliance programmes that meet business and regulatory needs.
  • Manage the learning management system (LMS) and keep accurate records of training, certifications, and skills.
  • Design and run training programmes for office and site staff, including early careers initiatives.
  • Advise operational teams on training needs, competencies, and compliance.
  • Lead and support a small L&D team, fostering a culture of learning and development.
  • Identify skills gaps and align training with business priorities.
  • Measure the effectiveness of programmes and look for ways to continuously improve.
  • Support organisational changes through learning interventions and encourage a culture of self-development.
Your Skills & Experience
  • Experience in learning and development, compliance, or training, ideally within construction, engineering, or infrastructure.
  • Knowledge of health and safety regulations and compliance standards.
  • Ability to design, deliver, and manage training across multiple teams or sites.
  • Strong communication, facilitation, and report‑writing skills.
  • Experience leading or mentoring a small team and working with senior stakeholders.
  • Experience supporting early‑career programmes is a plus.
  • Relevant learning and development qualification.
  • At least 5 years' experience in L&D, HR, or a related field, showing real impact on capability and performance.
  • Experience with accredited training delivery (e.g. SQA) is desirable.
  • Strong advisory skills, able to work as a trusted partner across all levels of the business.
  • Excellent project management skills and ability to handle multiple priorities.
  • Skilled in designing and delivering both in-person and digital training programmes.
  • Analytical skills to assess the impact of training and make improvements.
  • Knowledge of learning management systems and modern training methods.

This is a chance to make a real difference in a busy, respected civil engineering business. You will help teams grow, improve compliance, and support operational excellence. The role is mainly office‑based in Glasgow with some site visits.
