Student Specialist Mentor

The National Autistic Society offers a student support service across Scotland for autistic individuals in higher education, providing support to enable them to achieve their academic potential.

As a Specialist Mentor based in Glasgow, you will support students at higher educational institutions, delivering 1:1 support advice and guidance during regular sessions (usually weekly). Sessions are primarily in person at the student’s university or college, with occasional online support.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Providing individualized academic and social support to help students navigate changes and challenges.
  • Addressing disability awareness, emotion management, relationships and boundaries, timetabling and structure, presentation skills, group work and ინტერეს learning skills.
  • Prioritizing work to meet student needs, and maintaining clear communication.

The role requires a university graduate with first‑hand knowledge of the higher education environment and experience working with autistic individuals. Excellent communicator and able to prioritize tasks is essential. Applicants with a diagnosis of autism are especially encouraged.

Hours and compensation:
Bank position for up to 25 hours per week. You will be paid for support hours and allocated administrative time, plus any additional hours for training, supervisions and meetings.
