details

The shift pattern for this post is full including on-call. This is a fixed term post for 2–3 years. This ST4-6 Interventional Neuroradiology post offers a great opportunity to obtain a comprehensive training in the full range of diagnostic and interventional neuroradiology skills and experience. The 3-year programme is aimed at radiology trainees who possess a national training number (NTN) in Radiology and have successfully completed at least 3 years of radiology training with satisfactory ARCP outcome.

No previous interventional neuroradiology experience is required. Applicants with previous neuroradiology experience are, however, able to apply and will enter the training program at the appropriate ST level.

INR Training in West of Scotland Deanery In addition to significant hemorrhagic workload, expansion of regional stroke thrombectomy has made INR service in West of Scotland even busier. The unit also provides a specialist service for the management of head and neck vascular malformations and exploring provision of spinal intervention. INR trainee is expected to attain level 1 in diagnostic neuroradiology at the end of year 4 and level 2 at the end of year 5;

level 1 competency in interventional neuroradiology at the end of year 5 and level 2 competency at the end of year 6.

Responsibilities
  • Maintain general radiological competencies while undertaking the post, including general on-call in ST4/5.
  • Over the three years, be involved in well over 300 cerebral angiograms and 250 INR cases, increasingly as lead/first operator, building on strong general diagnostic neuroradiology experience.
  • Participate in ward rounds, MDTs and clinics.
  • Engage in audit and teaching as part of clinical practice; participate in research and understand principles of biostatistics and clinical trials.
  • Undergo regular training assessments, including Rad-DOPS, mini-IPX, MSF, yearly audit, teaching and MDT assessment tools.
Supervision and assessment

Trainees will be supervised by an overarching Educational Supervisor. Each placement includes induction, midterm and end-of-posting assessments with a clinical supervisor. Formal progress assessment occurs at 12 monthly intervals through the ARCP process.

Qualifications and eligibility
  • Possess a national training number (NTN) in Radiology and have completed at least 3 years of radiology training with satisfactory ARCP outcome.
  • No previous interventional neuroradiology experience is required; those with prior experience may join at the appropriate ST level.
On-call and progression

In addition to the post’s on-call duties, there may be a possibility of moving to higher neuroradiology/interventional on-call in ST6, subject to progression and service needs.
