Job Overview

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) is one of the largest healthcare systems in the UK employing around 40,000 staff in a wide range of clinical and non‑clinical professions and job roles. We deliver acute hospital, primary, community and mental health care services to a population of over 1.15 million and a wider population of 2.2 million when our regional and national services are included.

These is 1x Fixed term post available for 6 months.

The Acute Internal Medicine department at the QEUH is the largest in Europe, and covers GP referrals, admissions from ED and medical high dependency. It is an exciting and dynamic department, at the forefront of transformational changes to acute receiving in NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde.

Successful applicants should have completed both Foundation Training and Internal Medicine Training, and have MRCP UK or equivalent. They should have a keen interest in working in acute medicine, and enjoy working in a busy department with lots of clinical and quality improvement opportunities. Successful applicants should have a minimum of 5 years postgraduate medical experience and be registered with a licence with the GMC.

Additional qualifications such as FAMUS ultrasound skills, or training in medical education or leadership are desired but not essential.

A typical week is varied, and would involve on call commitments in the general medical rota, which may include covering medical receiving, wards or medical high dependency out of hours and  residents in the department have varied clinical activities during the week ranging from medical receiving, short stay and medical high dependency, with dedicated ultrasound training and development time.
