Overview

Full and part time hours available: Monday to Friday 9am – 5pm. The salary is Pro Rata for part-time hours.
RoleAn exciting opportunity has arisen for the right person to join NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde Public Protection Service as a Public Protection Nurse Advisor. Working within a board-wide team, the post holder will play a pivotal role in promoting a high quality, safe and effective public protection service and supporting the delivery of NHS GGC Public Protection Strategy Saf safeguarding It Matters to Us.
We are seeking candidates who wish to be part of a dynamic developing service and team of Public Protection Nurse Advisors who were highly commended at the RCN Scotland team of the year awards in 2023.
- Provide expert advice, support and guidance to staff in NHS GGC on matters relating to Public Protection.
- Provide clinical leadership, specialist professional advice and support and case supervision to a wide range of staff.
- Work collaboratively across professions and agencies and make evidence-based decisions.
- Work as part of a team including Chief Nurse and Head of Public Protection Service, Public Protection Lead Nurses (Child and Adult Protection), Public Protection Nurse Advisors, Lead Paediatrician for Child Protection, Public Protection Medical Lead and Administration staff.
The team is based at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital site. Public Protection training and specialist Clinical Supervision are carried out at sites across NHS GGC. The post holder is required to be a Registered Nurse or Midwife, with a first level degree, a minimum of five years post-qualification experience and evidence of postgraduate master’s level study.
Qualifications and Experience- Postgraduate qualification in Child Protection and/or Adult Support and Protection.
- Substantial experience working with children, young people, families, and/or vulnerable adults; clinical experience and understanding of Child Protection and/or Adult Protection practice.
- Strong knowledge of policy and legislation guiding contemporary practice with recent experience applying this practice.
- Willingness to undertake further study in adult and child protection if required.

Agenda for Change and Working ArrangementsFrom 1 April 2026, the Agenda for Change full-time working week will reduce from 37 to 36 hours per week. Part-time hours will be reduced pro-rata, with a corresponding increase in the hourly rate so that pay is not affected.
