Proposed Salary Range: 43 000 – 53 000, depending on relevant skills, knowledge and experience. The quoted range reflects internal benchmarking and external market insights.

BBC Naidheachdan provides engaging local, national and international news for a Gaelic audience across a range of linear and digital platforms. As a Senior Journalist we are looking for someone who can play a key role presenting our flagship Gaelic radio news programme Aithris na Maidne and other news programmes, helping to drive the editorial agenda and connect with new and existing audiences, whether they are in the Highlands and Islands, the Central Belt or further afield.

We broadcast seven days a week on radio, TV and digital platforms. We welcome applications from candidates with a passion for original local journalism and a drive to work in news presentation in a fast‑paced environment.

• Engage, inform and entertain a wide audience, holding decision‑makers to account and making complex issues accessible.
• Deliver an accomplished presentation style built through training and experience, engaging the listener.
• Research, script and present items and programmes that meet high journalistic standards and fully observe the BBC Editorial Guidelines.
• Make best use of new technologies, particularly developments in social media and radio visualisation, to deliver our journalism to audiences and set an example in learning to operate new systems and adapting to different working methods.
• Generate ideas and stories; contribute to the creative treatment and be involved in the production of an item or programme; provide clear treatments and proposals ensuring consistency of content quality and style.

• Experience presenting live news‑based content as a presenter, correspondent, reporter or contributor.
• Excellent spoken and written Scottish Gaelic language skills.
• Demonstrates balanced and unbiased judgement based on a thorough understanding of BBC Editorial Guidelines, target audience, programme and department objectives.
• Ability to convey story and programme ideas and to contribute fully to the planning process.
• Well‑developed knowledge of the Scottish news landscape and an immediate understanding of the impact of one story on the wider picture.
