Main Purpose of Job

Lead the estimating function for heavy civils & groundworks projects, with a strong focus on self-delivery experience in Data Centres or similar complex projects
. Provide accurate cost planning and tender submissions, ensuring alignment with project objectives and client expectations.

Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities Summary

The role requires technical expertise in estimating for large-scale heavy civils & groundworks projects and leadership skills to manage preconstruction activities effectively.

  • Estimating Leadership – Prepare detailed cost estimates for heavy civils & groundworks projects, ensuring accuracy and competitiveness.
  • Self-Delivery Expertise – Apply knowledge of direct delivery methodologies, particularly in Data Centres or similar environments.
  • Scope Analysis – Review project specifications, drawings, and contractual documents to identify risks, opportunities, and cost drivers.
  • Risk & Opportunity Management – Assess potential risks and opportunities, implementing mitigation strategies.
  • Tender Preparation – Lead the compilation of tender submissions, including pricing, methodology, and supporting documentation.
  • Stakeholder Engagement – Collaborate with clients, supply chain partners, and internal teams to ensure clarity and alignment.
  • Cost Control & Benchmarking – Maintain cost databases and provide benchmarking insights for future projects.
  • Governance & Compliance – Ensure adherence to company policies, governance frameworks, and industry standards.
  • Team Development – Mentor junior estimators and contribute to building a high-performing preconstruction team.
  • Reporting – Provide accurate and timely reports to the Preconstruction Director on estimating progress and outcomes.
Personal Specification Technical Competency
  • Proven experience as a Senior Estimator in heavy civils & groundworks.
  • Strong understanding of self-delivery methodologies.
  • Proficiency in estimating software and MS Office.
  • Professional qualification in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or related discipline.
  • Membership of RICS or equivalent professional body.
