Role purposeThe Operational Safety Team within the Forensic Directorate, particularly at Rowanbank Clinic, is responsible for the safety of all patients, staff and the general public. This will be provided through a secure and supportive environment which facilitates the balance between essential security and the creation of a therapeutic milieu. The Safety Team Leader will support the ethos of the service to deliver security in a proactive, subtle and unobtrusive manner that enhances and supports this milieu.
The Safety Team Leader must be able to demonstrate understanding of a range of work procedures and practices, some of which are non-routine, and requires a base level of theoretical knowledge normally acquired through formal training or equivalent experience. This includes a working knowledge of security policies and procedures as well as security systems such as x-ray screening machines, metal detection/access card systems, CCTV, panic alarms and more.
The role requires good communication and interpersonal skills, analytical and judgement abilities, and planning and organisational skills including manpower planning and balancing the demands of a busy department on a shift-by-shift basis, with a working knowledge of a PC and relevant systems including Microsoft Outlook.
- Directly supervise the safety staff ensuring maintenance of a safe and secure environment in line with local practices, procedures and protocols.
- Ensure all persons entering or leaving are authorised to do so.
- Respond to system alarms by investigating reasons and monitoring responses.
- Balance required security with good customer care.
- Fully operate the CCTV system and monitor all patient, staff and visitor movement using CCTV and two-way radios.
- Programme and monitor all access passes.
- Liaise with and support the Operational Safety Coordinator to ensure a variety of accurate data is available.
- Handle a large volume of calls and information from various communication systems while remaining aware of movement within the clinic.
The candidate should have a base level of formal training or equivalent experience, working knowledge of security policies and procedures, and familiarity with security systems. Key skills include good communication and interpersonal abilities, analytical and judgement skills, and planning and organisational skills. Proficiency with PC use and Microsoft Outlook is expected.
