Job Purpose

Responsible for the planning, co-ordination and liaison and administrative implementation of all related activities in support of the British Association of Cancer Research (BACR) to ensure a high-quality provision is delivered.

Main Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provide all encompassing, high-level administrative support and activity for the Officers of the British Association of Cancer Research (currently: Prof Joanne Edwards, Treasurer; Prof Kevin Ryan, Chair; Prof Charlotte Bevan, Secretary).
  • Provide support to the Treasurer with regards to the BACR accounts, including invoices, payments and financial reports.
  • Proactive management of the diary, exercising conservable discretion and knowledge of the BACR Officers calendar, including awareness of team priorities to ensure internal and external appointments are well planned and time is managed effectively.
  • As part of a team help facilitate and co-ordinate BACR-associated meetings, workshops and conferences, ensuring all necessary pre-meeting arrangements are in place, [e.g. booking of appropriate rooms; preparation and distribution of agenda and associated papers; post-meeting actions; preparation of minutes etc], as appropriate. Attendance at such events as a representative and promoter of the BACR.
  • As part of a team help promote BACR-related events via relevant social media platforms (e.g. Bluesky, Linked In, Facebook), including website management.
  • Active management of all correspondence [email, mail, phone calls, social media]. Deal efficiently with a high-volume inbox, prioritising emails and dealing independently with those which can be actioned/progressed. Including liaison with third parties such as charity partners.
  • Responsible for drafting agendas, reports, letters and emails as required.
  • Contribute to a culture of continuous improvement by suggesting service improvements and implementing new processes to enhance quality of service.
  • Engage in reasonable professional development activities as appropriate.
  • Undertake and other reasonable duties as required by the team.
  • Knowledge, Qualifications, Skills and Experience

    Knowledge/Qualifications

    Essential

    • A1 Ability to demonstrate the competencies required to undertake the duties associated with this post, having acquired the necessary knowledge and skills in a similar role, OR Scottish Credit and Qualification Framework Level 7 [Advanced Higher / Scottish Vocational Qualification Level 3, Higher National Certificate] or equivalent, and experience of personal development in a similar role.
    • A2

      Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Packages (e.g., including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and One Drive is essential).

    Essential

    • C1 Excellent communication and customer service skills, operating with diplomacy and discretion as part of a team.
    • C2 Ability to plan, organise and prioritise effectively, respond to changes in demands and/or pressures, delivering work to standard and within deadlines.
    • C3 Ability to work both independently and flexibly as part of a high performing team with excellent stakeholder management skills.

    Experience

    Essential

    • E1 Experience of working in an office environment, and the capability to work flexibly, when possible.
    • E2 Experience of organisational and diary management.
    • E3 Experience of financial & budget management

    Desirable

    • F1 Experience of use of social media platforms for promotional purposes
    • F2 Experience of involvement in event management
    Terms and Conditions

    Salary will be Grade 5, £28,031 - £31,236 per annum pro rata.

    This post is part-time (25 hours per week), and open ended with funding available for up to 60 months from start date in the first instance.
