Job Summary and Responsibilities

The Sr. Complex Gifts Officer provides expert counsel regarding non-cash gifts to potential and current donors and provides effective community outreach and maintains collaborative working relationships with donors, OCF team members and professional advisors. The Sr. Complex Gifts Officer will ensure the development of and compliance with gift acceptance policies and procedures for non-cash gifts.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Statewide Fund Work and Complex Gifts — Percentage of Time: 40%
    • Stay apprised of federal and state tax legislation that relate to OCF’s gift planning activities for use in conversations with donors and professional advisors.
    • Lead training of development and other staff in matters relating to gift planning.
    • Participate in defining OCF’s gift acceptance policies and procedures for non-cash gifts.
    • Provide recommendations and develop written/electronic communications about planned giving and acceptance of non-cash gifts.
    • Develop an internal library of material about charitable giving vehicles and trends, federal and state tax legislative matters, and material developed by OCF.
    • Work collaboratively across divisions to create and promote new philanthropic service opportunities for donors.
    • Engage in special projects designed to move OCF’s strategic plan forward.
    • Field inquiries and collaborate with OCF staff on bringing proposed gifts, policy exceptions and other relevant matters to the Gift Acceptance Committee as needed.
    • Assist OCF development staff with non-standard donor inquiries and requests.
    • Approve all fund agreements and post-advisory restrictions.
    • Oversight of fund agreement template forms changes as needed, including consultation with legal counsel.
  • Donor Work — Percentage of Time: 40%
    • Meet with donors and prospective donors to educate them about their charitable options and create donor-centered gift plans that will help them reach their philanthropic goals in a manner that is consistent with OCF policies.
    • Engage with local nonprofits to explain the benefits of partnering with OCF to establish endowment funds.
    • Speak to groups and individuals about planned giving and donation of non-cash assets. Provide outreach efforts in the community.
  • Professional Advisor Outreach — Percentage of Time: 20%
    • Plan quarterly philanthropy forums for professional advisor audiences on topics that are relevant to promoting philanthropy and with the goal of increasing referrals.
    • Plan events for our professional advisor network to allow our staff to connect with and educate professional advisors in more fun, relaxed and casual atmosphere.
    • Provide content and input for professional advisor communications.
Qualifications

Required Education, Training,

Experience and Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree required, advanced degree preferred, or equivalent experience in lieu of a degree.
  • 10 or more years of experience with gift planning strategies for major donors, including bequests, charitable trusts, gift annuities, and other estate planning strategies as they relate to philanthropy, or experience as a planned giving officer, licensed attorney, preferably in estate planning or tax area(s).
