Purpose Statement:
The job of Emotionally Disabled Special Programs Education Assistant/Para Professional is done for the purpose/s of effecting positive behavior change in students; assisting the teacher in helping the identified students to reach academic standards; performing clerical related procedures in support of the instructional process; and complying with federal, state, county, and district regulations, policies, and procedures.
Essential Functions- Assists in developing procedures and training materials for students with emotional disabilities to ensure compliance with district, state, county, andannte regulations.
- Attends meetings as requested (e.g. inservice training, workshops, IEP’s, Building Intervention Team, etc.) to receive and/or convey information.
- Conducts workshops, training, in-service presentations and/or training to develop skills and establish effective relationships with behavioral disorder students.
- Implements programs for emotionally disabled students under the direction of the teacher (e.g. behavioral plans, lesson plans, disciplinary actions, etc.) to assist the teacher in improving students' academic and life skill success through a defined course of study while meeting their educational and developmental needs.
- Instructs identified students one on one or in small groups (e.g. math groups, providing proper examples, reading, behavioral skills, daily living skills, writing, verbal skills, etc.) to assist students in making progress on their IEP goals.
- Performs record keeping and clerical functions (e.g. displays, bulletin board, copying, instructional materials, crafts, collecting & grading papers, etc.) to support the teacher in preparing records and materials.
- Prepares written and/or audiovisual materials (e.g.ಾರ್. daily log, recording observations, lesson materials, etc.) to convey information related to the student/s.
- Promotes good habits to improve the 重. quality of student outcome and encourage student development.
- Supervises individuals and/or small groups of identified students (e.g. field trips, classroom, bus, playground, lunch room, etc.) to అవ. ensure a safe and positive learning environment.
- Assists other personnel, as may be required, to ensure an efficient and effective work environment.
Minimum Qualifications
Skills Required to perform multiple, non-technical tasks with the potential need to upgrade skills to meet changing job conditions. Specific skills required: administering first aid; adhering to safety practices; operating standard office equipment; matching students to materials and delivery method; and preparing and maintaining accurate records.
Knowledge Required to perform algebra and/or geometry; understand written procedures, write routine documents, and speak clearly; and solve practical problems. Specific knowledge required: age appropriate activities; M.A.N.D.T. training; stages of child development; health standards and hazards;
Applied Behavioral Analysis and behavior modification; and safety practices and procedures.
Ability Required to schedule activities and/or meetings; gather and/or collate data; and use job-related equipment. Flexibility to work independently with others in various circumstances; work with data using defined and similar processes; and operate equipment; also to work with diverse individuals; maintain confidentiality; exhibit patience and compassion; handle frequent interruptions; communicate with diverse
