Purpose Statement: The job of Special Programs Education Assistant/ASD is to effect positive behavior change in students; assist teachers in helping identified students reach academic standards; provide referrals to families and/or students; conduct clerical procedures supporting instruction; and comply with federal, state, county, and district regulations, policies, and procedures.
Essential Functions- Assists in developing procedures and training materials for students with emotional disabilities to ensure compliance with regulations.
- Attends meetings as requested (e.g., in‑service training, workshops, IEPs, Building Intervention Team).
- Conducts workshops, training, and presentations to develop koristi and establish relationships with students with behavioral disorders.
- Implements programs for emotionally disabled students under teacher direction—behavioral plans, lesson plans, disciplinary actions—to assist them in academic and life‑skill success.
- Instructs identified students one‑on‑one or in small groups (math groups, reading, behavioral skills, daily living skills, writing, verbal skills, etc.) to help them progress on IEP goals.
- Performs record‑keeping and clerical functions (display, bulletin board, copying, instructional materials, crafts, collecting & grading papers) to support teacher preparation and material management.
- Prepares written and/or audio‑visual materials (daily log, observation recordings, lesson materials) to convey student‑related information.
- Promotes good habits to improve student outcomes disagreements and encourage development.
- Supervises individuals and/or small groups of identified students (field trips, classroom, bus, playground, lunch room) to ensure a safe and positive learning environment.
- Assists other personnel as required to ensure an efficient and effective work environment.
Minimum Qualifications
SKILLS: administering first aid; adhering to safety practices; operating standard office equipment; matching student to materials and delivery method; preparing and maintaining accurate records.
KNOWLEDGE: algebra and/or geometry; written procedures; routine documents; clear speech; problem solving; stages of child development; health standards and hazards;
Applied Behavioral Analysis and behavior modification; safety practices and procedures.
ABILITY: schedule activities/meetings; gather/collate data; use job‑related equipment; independent problem solving; communication with diverse groups; confidentiality; patience and compassion; work with frequent interruptions.
ResponsibilityWork under limited supervision following standardized practices; direct other persons within a work unit; track budget expenditures; utilize resources from other units; opportunity significant impact on services.
Working EnvironmentPhysical demands include significant lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling; frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling; fine finger dexterity; requires 40% sitting, 30% walking, 30% standing; minimal temperature variations; some hazardous conditions.
ExperienceJob‑related experience required.
EducationHigh School diploma or equivalent.
Required TestingPre‑Employment Proficiency Test.
