ResponsibilitiesThe Wastewater Utility Worker I & II positions report to the Wastewater Utility Supervisor. The primary functions of these positions include:
- Performs repairs and maintenance on wastewater systems and reclaimed water distribution systems, including monitoring water volumes delivered to basins and customer sites.
- Troubleshoots system problems and makes recommendations for corrective action.
- Fills percolation ponds according to predetermined schedules and revises the schedule depending on system requirements.
- Operates, inspects, and maintains reclaimed water distribution infrastructure: logs daily records, interprets readings from meters, gauges, charts, and instruments; and detects mechanical or process deficiencies.
- Performs maintenance, inspection, and repair of wastewater collection assets such as gravity mains, force mains, manholes, and lift stations safely and proficiently.
- Operate a variety of equipment, machinery, and tools that include a utility truck, heavy machinery such as a dump truck, tractors, skid loaders, backhoes, excavators, CCTV equipment, and combination sewer cleaners.
- Available on a 24-hour basis for emergencies and after-hours callouts, and On-call as required.
- Reads and interprets engineering plans, architectural plans, and blueprints.
- Assures compliance with all federal, state, county, and local regulations and laws.
This position has been designated as a Heavy work position that spends most of its workday in an outdoor/field environment. to learn more about the different physical exertion levels as defined by the Social Security Administration.

- High School Diploma or GED
- Up to 1 year of specialized or technical training beyond high school in water, wastewater or related field (may include on-the-job training)
- Up to 1 year of experience, depending on the area of assignment in water, reclaimed water, distribution system operation, including maintenance practices, or working knowledge of wastewater collection systems, maintenance, operation, and general construction.
- Any equivalent combination of experience and training that provides the knowledge and abilities necessary to perform the work.
- Class A Commercial Driver's License Permit (CDL) with Tanker Endorsement at the time of hire and obtain the Class A CDL License with Tanker Endorsement within 6 months of hire.
- Appropriate commercial driver's license must be maintained as a condition of employment in this job classification.
- ADEQ Grade I Wastewater Collections or Grade I Water Distribution Certification within 1 year of hire or promotion (The certification required will be dependent on the area of assignment).
- Appropriate certification must be maintained as a condition of employment in this job classification.
- Office of Pest Management Pesticide Applicator's License may be required within 1 year of hire.
- NASSCO Certification for pipe assessment and manhole assessment preferred.
$19.85- $27.79.
Qualifications – Wastewater Worker II- High School Diploma or GED
- 2 years of specialized or technical training beyond high school in water, wastewater or related field.
- 2 years of experience, depending on area of assignment in water or reclaimed water distribution system operation, including maintenance practices or working knowledge of wastewater collection systems, maintenance, operation and general construction.
- Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the knowledge and abilities necessary to perform the work.
- Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with Tanker Endorsement with no air brake restrictions upon hire or promotion.
- Appropriate commercial driver's license must be maintained as a condition of employment in this job classification.
