Maintenance Worker Primary Duties and Responsibilities
The following duties are not intended to be a comprehensive list of all duties performed by all employees in this classification, but a representative summary of the primary duties and responsibilities. Incumbent(s) may not be required to perform all duties listed and may be required to perform additional, position-specific duties.
Under immediate supervision, maintains parks, cemetery, streets, alleys, and landscaped areas in and around traffic islands, Town buildings, and roadsides.
Prunes trees, trims shrubs, mows, and edges; responsible for trash and weed control; performs cemetery park and ball field maintenance, including irrigation, fencing, top dressing, and base/plate/anchor installation; assists with over seeding, aerating, and mowing operations; assists with construction work, including pouring concrete, framing, painting, plumbing, roofing, and minor electrical repair; performs routine maintenance of equipment, tools, and vehicles.
Sprays herbicides for pre-emergent and periodic spot spraying of weeds around ball fields, parks and right of ways; installs irrigation systems; drags baseball infields; performs street repairs, including patching potholes, filling cracks in the pavement surface, and applying surface treatments; sweeps street using a mechanical street sweeper or kick broom; controls weeds by mowing or using herbicides to control growth along rights-of-way.
Provides and installs safety barricades and channelize traffic around construction areas; cleans and levels alley roadways; maintains and repairs Town owned traffic signage; makes new signs as needed; maintains streets, sidewalks, drainage, and rights-of-way; checks for curb and street damage; removes and replaces broken curbs, gutters and sidewalks.
Maintains buildings, including maintenance of landscape associated with Town buildings; performs minor electrical, plumbing, framing, carpentry, and building maintenance tasks. Operates boom truck, ditcher, dump truck, mower, tractor, loader, bucket truck, backhoe, street sweeper, kick broom and any other equipment needed to perform the tasks.
Minimum Qualifications &Position Requirements
Education and Experience
- Two (2) years experience in general maintenance work.
- A valid Arizona driver license will be required at the time of appointment and must be maintained throughout employment. Preference given to those applicants that possess a valid CDL.
- Must have the ability to pass an extensive background check.
- Must be able to obtain a fingerprint clearance card and pass a drug test.
- Knowledge of basic construction and maintenance practices, methods, and techniques.
- Knowledge of grounds keeping, landscaping, and building maintenance practices and techniques.
- Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with town staff and the public.
- Skill in operating mowers, blowers, weed trimmers, tractors and other equipment.
- Skill in following oral and written instructions.
- Skill in using common hand and power tools.
- Skill in working outdoors in all weather conditions while performing vigorous physical activities.
