Area Business Manager - Dermatology for Animals

Salary range: $78-90k

As part of our continued expansion, we’re seeking a dynamic Area Business Manager to join our leadership team.

The Area Business Manager oversees the day-to-day operations of Thrive Pet Healthcare’s boutique Dermatology for Animals clinics. This position provides leadership, coaching, and support to Practice Leads and staff to ensure operational excellence, financial health, and a thriving, team-centered culture.

The ABM partners closely with the Regional Operations Director (RDO) to drive performance, optimize workflow, and cultivate an environment where teams feel valued, engaged, and inspired to deliver outstanding care.

Work Environment & Travel

This position involves up to 75% travel to clinics to provide on-site support, leadership, and coaching. Area Business Managers will have the opportunity to participate in training, team collaboration, or special projects. Candidates should be comfortable managing their schedule independently, maintaining strong communication with their teams, and traveling regularly to stay closely connected to clinic operations and staff.

Key Responsibilities

Driving operational excellence and business performance through strategic decision-making and collaboration.

  • Manage daily operations across multiple Dermatology for Animals boutique clinic locations directly and through clinic leadership.
  • Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) including transaction counts, average client transaction (ACT), staff and doctor labor, and cost of goods sold (COGS).
  • Ensure adherence to budgets and oversee financial health of each location.
  • Maintain compliance with company policies and procedures (OSHA, controlled substances, inventory, etc.).
  • Act as liaison between clinic teams and central support departments (IT, facilities, marketing, administration, etc.).
  • Oversee monthly and quarterly reporting requirements, including inventory and controlled-substance compliance.

Building trust, fostering teamwork, and leading with emotional intelligence.

  • Promote and uphold Dermatology for Animals/Thrive Pet Healthcare Core Values and culture across all locations.
  • Partner with clinic leadership in recruiting, onboarding, and training high-performing teams.
  • Ensure team alignment, engagement, and satisfaction across locations.
  • Provide coaching and guidance to resolve conflicts and strengthen team collaboration.
  • Support Practice Leaders in creating efficient, compassionate, and inclusive workplace environments.

Bringing teams together to deliver excellence and shared success.

  • Support staff development through mentoring, training opportunities, and continuing education.
  • Collaborate on performance evaluations and professional development plans.

    Ensure training programs, standard operating procedures (SOPs/workflows), and reference materials are being implemented.
  • Provide occasional operational or administrative support to clinics as needed.
Key Qualifications
  • Required:

    Veterinary technician experience including experience in veterinary dermatology.
  • Preferred: 5+ years of experience in the veterinary industry, including staff management, coaching, and performance improvement.
  • Travel to all assigned practices and other locations based on need.
  • Proven ability to lead multiple teams across locations.
  • Understanding of data analytics.
  • Enjoy client interaction at all levels.
  • Strong communication, facilitation, and relationship-building skills.
  • Experience implementing operational initiatives and analyzing data for decision-making.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, evolving environment.
  • Strong judgment and problem-solving skills.
