Hunter Contracting Co., a diversified company specializing in civil infrastructure and industrial construction, is seeking a Grade Checker responsible for setting grade stakes to guide earth‑moving equipment operators in sloping highways and fill embankments.
Duties & Responsibilities- Reads and understands blueprints, sketches, building plans, and drawings.
- Sets grade stakes to guide earth‑moving equipment operators in sloping roads and fill embankments, using measuring instruments and hand tools
- Reads survey stakes along right‑of‑way to determine grade specification for embankments.
- Measures horizontally and vertically, in specified ratio, from survey stake to juncture of embankment and initial excavation, using survey rod and eye level.
- Sets grade stakes and chalk‑marks excavation reference points on stake.
- Repeats measuring and staking at specified intervals to form horizontal stake line.
- Observes excavating activities to verify conformance to stake references and notifies equipment operators or supervisor of deviations.
- Adheres to all safety policies and procedures.
- Knowledge of materials, methods, and tools involved in the construction or repair of structures, highways, or roads.
- Must be able to properly understand construction plans and able to properly follow field instructions.
- Works within precise standards of accuracy, judging distances and slopes accurately. Prioritizes work to meet goals or deadlines.
- Practices good safety habits and takes pride in craftsmanship.
- Three (3) + years' experience in construction operations; AND,
- Any equivalent combination of experience and training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
